Interesting story alright.

Its when a substance like cedar oil or whatever they use now is put on a horses skin to irritate it so increase blood flow to the area, some people believe it speeds up recovery from tendon or similar injuries, it's used quite a lot in America, I don't know how common it is over here.

Sorry TTO,
I was preparing an answer to your question when it dawned on me rather that give you my understanding of what is involved just google it and you will probably get a better understanding of it. Its the usual situation when one considers that in many quarters blistering is considered barbaric by some and a useful treatment by others. I have no opinion either way but my tale was more on the devious/unscrupulous parties used by some people. In this occasion I feel so sorry for Garleton who did not deserve to be treated in this manner |
By:
BM,
Its used extensively over here but more I would suggest by the older generation of trainers,I suspect the younger ones will look to alternative methods |
By:
a choice for the horse, Cedar Oil or Harvey Smith, you decide.
By:
thanks midas, I didn't know anything about it's use over here
By:
so midas are you telling us that the horse was blistered to make it look like he had a leg?
By:
Obviously my main point being is that the fact is the horse runs tomorrow after roughly 4 weeks following the sales means that the horse had f...all wrong with its leg and should not have been blistered in the first place, Purely a ruse to put off potential buyers and the misinformation given out by the trainer/wife. Shameful
By:
in my book the trainer should be reported for fraud
By:
And probably the new/existing owners who I assume were well aware of what was going on!!
By:
if he blistered the horse for his own gain this should be reported as fraud

By:
can Harry Topper really give 10lbs to Ballabriggs?
By:
GC,
I suspect it may not be an easy task doing that, but hopefully they may have a conscience, and also word may get out what these people get up to for the sake of a few quid,as my auld heiland granny used to say "hell mend them" and with that good night to you all!! |
By:
Judorick,
I never miss this meeting and the last couple of years its been obvious Ballabriggs was needing the run for you now what, I would suggest yes Harry Topper will concede the weight!! |
By:
will be quite a feat
By:
the last time Ballabriggs ran in the Kelso race he was carrying the 6lb penalty and was making his seasonal debut after a long lay off
this time he is getting weight and has had a run to blow the cobwebs away |
By:
judorick, not many horses, even Grand National winners ever recover from the lethering that horse took that day.
By:
9/1 getting 10lb from a novice? looks a big price
This is how he ran last year with no prep run and carrying a penalty "Tracked leaders, headway to lead briefly 10th, blundered next, smooth headway to lead after last, headed and outpaced final 200yds, better for race" had two runs this time and no penalties just saying it's a big price |
By:
A 12yo against an 140 rated Novice ....shirley not, the downward spiral for one, up up and away for the other.....and then there's Bold Sir Brian
mmm |
By:
they've got to give him 10lbs and he's 8 or 9 to one, can easily see him leading over the last and trading much shorter
as for Bold Sir Brian, norfolk and chance |

By:
"as for Bold Sir Brian, norfolk and chance"
![]() he'll leave Ballybriggs in his wake and I dare say he'll give Harry a real fright. ![]() |

Ballabriggs not y
By:
Completion at Kelso is also the goal for Bold Sir Brian after his last outing on the racecourse resulting in a crunching fall at Cheltenham, where he lay winded on the ground for several minutes.
Peter Scudamore, partner of trainer Lucinda Russell, said: "He had an horrific fall but our vets and physios have looked at him and say he is fine. He has schooled a lot and what happened doesn't seem to have worried him, but that's at home, so if he jumps round and runs a good race we'll be very satisfied." as I said, norfolk and chance |
By:
just as well I have not backed it then, just my opinion, just as is my opinion that I feel Ballabriggs may be on the wain. I'd be surprised if he ever ran to his rating of 152 again.
By:
if I'm right, and Bold Sir Brian has no chance, does that then not make 9 about Ballabriggs an interesting price? Getting 10lb from a novice making his debut at the track with the rest of the field trading at 17+ ? Ballabriggs ran well in this last year with no previous run, had two this year..
yes the fav may be too young and spritely but 10lbs is a lot of weight to give to a classy horse as I said, it looks a big price and I am sure Balla will trade much shorter in play |
By:
There's something missing from this thread.
By:
yeah I agree it should trade much shorter than 9 given that it has done so in 7 of its last 9 races excluding the GN
By:
yes salmon its been taken off
By:
salmon he was blistered to make it look like he had a leg
By:
the trainer even told a well known commentator who comes on here who went to see the horse in his box at doncaster he had a leg
By:
Thanks.
Mmmmmmm. |
By:
salmon shocking
By:
Did the trainer win the GN with Rubstic ?
By:
think so
By:
Not a bad run from a horse that at Doncaster Sales just over 4 weeks ago the Trainer was telling everyone had a leg and a bleeder, unsurprisingly the Trainer bought it,hmm!!
By:
Sorry folks for people who did'nt read the thread from last night, but Betfair pulled the opening thread after a few hours which explained the story.
