I was reading a article by Matt Gardner(american horse blogger) he seems to be using similar methods to your goodself.

You have to be careful though as for instance the AW, if you chuck out short priced runners you wont make profits

as its confirmed course horses or consistent type that are profitable and not the bigger odds, but at Wolverhamton

you get a really good spin out of the bigger priced horses.

bf fanatic takes over another thread with his s**** tables....

this actullay was one of the better threads as was about betting to win or betting to enjoy.or might add betting because addicted.
now there nothing wrong with the first two reasons, but the third is worrying.
the name of the thread starter is worrying also as he likely did chase at one time, maybe learning to not chase was his answer and stay solid in betting pattern ,thats why he now relized that the form isnt working all the time.
wee all know racing is lets say not run true all the time but that is part of the game handicapping.
so if we know they race to get better handicapp and we cant be sure when they are trying or not surely the only time they can try is when conditions are correct. now barbizan defied that today by winning on soft going although you go back 4 years he had run well of 12 higher mark at cheltenham on heavy.so if it takes 4 years  ago form to give him chance today then how can you trust that.
i know bf gave stats to prove that works on last three runs over 8/1 but that surely is tosh as i could give some stats that work after racing.
there was one horse run other day in four horse race the other three needed good ground he had won on soft twice i think, not going back to check horse but anyway he was around the 10/11 mark, right away i said he his a absolute banker bar fall ofcourse.
now if you want to back to win at horse racing he was the bet and could have won your weeks amount on him.
he hacked up and there was the form in book with no dangers in my eyes.
now the problem lies with do you want to wait for one like him every so often maybe one or two a week then fine.
but 99.9% dont and there is the answer why not chasing and betting for enjoyment are two differant things.
alot of people bet with there own stratagies but in my opinion, yiouy can either bet in running that is nbot to say no study  of form as u need to know what might happen next as race is running along with what your eyes are seing. or trust in the form book which we all know the better the race the better chance  form working,but back to earlier how far do we go back many years of form do we study.
i personnely think current  is what where looking at and if you see some thing which i missed with barizan  at time they beware of bad result, and look else where easier said than done ofcourse.

Well I will use my latest creation though this is V 5.1 and not 5.2 which means i can ask

the computer to spectrum compare ratings relative to form ranges and progression vectors

to arrive at pretty accurate predictive strike rates, then find the most proftiable relative

to Predicted ROI% and rank them, in v5.2 I can apply many filters but this is 5.1 so I will

simply produce 2 tables as thus.

If you want the biggest profits from jumps racing, lay the sub 5.0 brigade at Chelts and consider

backing the bigger odds at Uttoxeter which is far more profitable on average but not the spectacle that draws

in the crowds and money IMO....

Its ok Manxy as I doubt Betfair would worry much about anyone that might make profits using computers

as its the fastest way to take layers and backers dough and pass in on to Betfiar in the form of charges

a finite and efficient system to make profits all round and a mutual rewarding understanding

I would categorically like to state that in no way have I found after researching nearly a years worth of races

that horse racing is bent, in fact it is probably the most regulated and fair of all the sports as horses

nearly always give 100% effort as do the stable hands and jockeys.

Bur if you continue to pay homage to the markets that are seeded and controlled by the course and high street bookmakers

in terms of the short end of the market then you simply wont make a profit unless you grade the short ones into

horses that are over or in most cases under priced.



If you consider that certain horses at the short end of the market are not a fair price then you always have the

option of laying the price with fairly limited exposure as do the hoards of bookmakers that make a regular income from

these prices.

Your comment about avoiding paying charges, well if one is in profit then using an exchange you have to understand that

you have to pay charges or the host company as in this case Betfair would not have the money to operate

and the fact that most of the big hitters have always used Betfair and not the other mickey mouse exchanges is the reason

the Premium charges had to be applied as betfair has to find new customers and function at a greater rate of knots

than a small and/or unpopular competitor.

If you're 6 figures down over a long period of time then have you tried doing the exact opposite of what you were doing?

Do whatever process that brought you to your selections & then lay them at the price you were about to take. This should make you a winner.

You could find that all your issues come from following the crowd...

The first race at Lingfield today has rubber stamped my intention to never ever back another horse again. Just watched today and that race was as bent as Boy George. Adam Kirby/Butler are the worst two culprits in Britain they should be banned for life but what goes around comes around and it will come back and haunt them. I think horse racing and football are very difficult to win with, in my opinion tennis, golf and even cricket are easier sports to be successfull at.

I wonder if many of the Betfair pundits who are making a profit by punting on horses are securing their position by  means of a 0.1% profit on each bet, successfully being able to use automation to place  many hundreds of bets.

I made 26k on one race on here when a horse I was connected with won after not trying a leg for 6 months and running over wrong trips and jockeys yanking it. Unfortunately I am no longer involved in that 'circle' and winning is impossible now.

something i read on the RP website yesterday for the 6pm race at kempton which buckland won easily,   "Trainer Hans Adielsson: "Buckland ran a good race at Wolverhampton on Monday despite hanging out all the time. My brother, an experienced handicapper in Sweden, rang and said he would hack up in this race so we came for it."

i didnt bet in this race because it was too messy,6/4 fav had been beaten several times off this mark and the others werent much better,buckland had won 1 race in 25 attempts and his bother told him he would hack up which he duly did,inside info is gold.

but his brother didnt have inside info..he's an experienced handicapper in Sweden who no doubt keeps a keen eye on his brother's horses in this country and told him to run it cos it would win...that's like the opposite of inside info...someone shrewd telling the stable what they dont know

my point is you wouldnt of backed buckland at 4/1 with 1/25 wins,those sort of horses you give a wide berth to.

was racing off a jt career-low mark yday ie in handicapping terms, it has faced a stiffer task on all bar 4 of its prev starts

salient point was that horse was trying 10f for first time, a trip he's bred to be suited by being out of Lingfield Oaks Trial 2nd....maybe all the placed efforts over shorter were simply due to lack of toe in closing stages, tho this wasnt obvious from watching the horse

as to regards steadypace ,you can win by backing horses im up 33pts this year solely on the A/W,not everyone is bent youre form study is obso not very good otherwise you would turn a profit.

He was racing off his lowest mark ever of 122. This mark would have probably not have been good enough to get a run in a handicap at Cheltenham . He had to win to raise his mark to approx 129 which should be sufficient. Trading on here at 40+ , were they trying???

I agree with you - inside info is the only way to go in the racing game. Some of the trainers' websites are useful but forget the racing press or TV (Racing UK and ATR) as they have no inside info, so they are guessers like the rest of us.
