I know the format has slightly changed but I don't seem able to download the text from the racecard. I've always selected and copied the text only to Excel, but now it doen't work. Have they protected the page?

Try pasting the text into an email, or a text editor like Notepad or Word. If that works, then the answer is no. It works for me.
Otherwise, provide more detail of what you are trying to do, starting with which card. |

Hi Ramruma, thanks for the reply.
It does copy the text to Word, but it won't then copy it to Excel. To be honest I'm not familiar with Word. What I normally do is right-click anywhere on any racecard, Select All, click on the top cell of any column in Excel,then Paste Special, Text Only, and hey presto the whole racecard is neatly compressed into one column, without the fancy graphics. Sorry, above should have read Select All, COPY, Paste Special, Text Only. Just tried it again and it still doesn't work. It only copies the top line (BLOODSTOCK, BETTING,SOCCERBASE etc)into the one cell.

Try pasting into Wordpad, and then recopying from Wordpad and then into Excel.

Just tried Wordpad. The whole text does paste, but when you Select All, Copy and Paste to Excel, only the top line is copied. |

No problems here : Select All>Copy>Right Click on the Excel Cell>Paste Special
Comes out same as before |

There must be a glitch with my Excel. I'm not doing anything different from what I've always done. Just closed Excel down and re-opened it but it still doesn't paste. |

PS I also download the racecards from At The Races in the same way. They work fine, which means my Excel is working correctly. I'm baffled.

If I save the whole page as an mht file first, then copy and paste that into Excel, it works. But I still don't know why I have to do this all of a sudden. Thanks anyway Ramruma and Starfish for your input. |

Might be worth putting out a call to yeahyeahwhatever. She's a computer whizz and does a lot of grabbing of info from the RP pages, and might be able to help out if you still need help.

Recent updates to racingpost.com
You may have noticed a few recent enhancements to racingpost.com. We’d like to explain them to you in a little more detail. Most noticeably, on the cards pages we have integrated William Hill to streamline your betting journey and rearranged the card header on both racingpost.com and our bloodstock site to improve the navigation between cards pages. You will notice the new William Hill bet slip on the right hand side of the cards pages. This allows you to place bets quickly and easily with William Hill as well as manage your account. This is the first phase in a plan to integrate other bookmakers in a similar fashion in the coming months so that you can get your bets on quickly and easily from a choice of bookmakers. Meanwhile, if you wish to show odds from your preferred bookmaker, just click the ‘Customise Card’ button at the top of the cards page, click on ‘preferred bookmaker’ and you can select from the list or just choose to display best odds by clicking the black button. You can use the ‘Customise Card’ button to change the display in other ways, removing or adding information to your own specification. Viewing race times is now clearer and you can navigate to any race by using the Select A Race dropdown menu at the top of the card. Alongside these alterations we’ve added a new feature called Tipping Live where you can get all the latest betting information throughout the day live from our reporters at the track. You can use the menu to filter by meeting. This service can be found in the tab alongside the News Live tab on the News Live section of the site so it is easy to flick between the two. And if you just want to catch up with all the big stories of the day click on All Stories then choose News Round-up. In order to make the cards cleaner, we no longer display the Print Cards link but you can still print the cards by simply pressing CTRL + P on your keyboard. As with any website upgrade you may notice some areas of the site not performing as you would expect. Highlight & copy on the post website, then paste to excel (CNTRL V), then copy what you have pasted(CNTRL C) then click in another spreadsheet or another sheet in your spreadsheet, paste special (edit - paste special) and select un-formatted text, you get the text alone & no images

I had the same problem of not being able to copy and paste race cards for not only the Racing Post but Sporting Life and At The Races. But I ave solved the problem for my own purposes. I now subscribe to PuntHub and for just £10 per month I receive all the UK and Irish horse racing cards in an Excel format that I change around to suit my own purposes. The main aim of this service is to provide a "ratings" service for its customers. I use a few ratings services so this is a confirmation booster as well. However, its greatest use for me is to save time on writing out mundane race card details and crack on with choosing my daily selections. Just a thought for anyone else struggling to copy RP, SL or ATR race cards.
