The broadcaster, who was widely praised for her role in front of the cameras during the 2012 Olympics, will present the weekly show on the BT Sport channel.

She said: "I'd like to thank BT for giving me the opportunity to present my own magazine style programme in which I can interview iconic sports stars and discuss newsworthy and stimulating topics. I'm enthused by BT's vision for sports coverage in the future and particularly their support of women's sport, an issue about which I feel very strongly. This is an exciting new venture for me and I can't wait to get started."

Balding will continue working with the BBC as well as presenting Channel 4's racing coverage alongside the new BT show which has a working title of Clare Balding Presents.

She was hailed a 'national treasure' for her assured and warm presenting of the Olympic games. She has attributed her popularity to "doing her homework" and being informed about those she is interviewing.

The hiring of Balding is the latest signing for BT's growing television network, which has spent £1bn on sports rights in recent months and which could threaten BSkyB's position as a sports broadcaster.

BT paid £738m for the broadcasting rights to 38 live Premier League football matches from 2013 to 2016, as well as the rights to Aviva Premiership Rugby for £152m from 2013 to 2017.

In November, BT also announced a distribution deal with the Eurosport channels, which will bring tennis, cycling and snooker coverage to its customers. It has also signed up French, Italian, Brazilian and North American football leagues

AD, you are obsessed with this woman, and it overexcites those forumites who are obsessed with her sexuality, as if that were the only thing stopping Clare breaking out through the television screen to give some fat, middle-aged neanderthal a bj.

Claire a Lady who lacks a pretty face and who appears to have a somewhat

lumpy figure has through sheer perseverance hard work and the right connections

has come out on top in more ways than one, the best of good luck to her.Grin

How has Clare got the right connections? Surely all her relatives are in racing not broadcasting?

Maybe she did start off in the BBC's racing team, though. In which case, you may have a point. She was awful when she started but improved rapidly, unlike some racing presenters.

Ramruna, Claire is connected to the upper echelons of UK society and they rule the

roost in all aspects.

Please say she'll interview Rishi and ask him why he's completely clueless.

Ramruna, if you research Miss Balding's pedigree I will guarantee

that not too far down the line you will find a connection to the

Royal family or at least a very close connection to the Landed Gentry.

She is concidered to be flavour of the month at the minute .Not the first to be in that position John Barrowman , Anthea Turner , Noel Edmunds have all been in there time , on numerous shows and it seemed never off the TV . Someone else will come along soon enough .

@miprixbloater -- connections to the Royal Family might explain an invitation to the next king's coronation, but not how she landed a tv show. For that, she'd need connections in broadcasting, and that is what I question.

Without having read her autobiography or many of the articles pasted on here, I'd say her current ubiquity is because she had the nous to do her homework for the Olympics, in a year when most presenters (eg the disastrous river pageant commentary) thought they could wing it. That led to the offers flooding in, and she seems to have accepted most of them.

@miprixbloater -- according to Wikipedia: "[CB] formalised her relationship with the BBC Radio 4 continuity announcer and newsreader Alice Arnold in September 2006".

So yes but a very small cog since continuity announcers do not hand out jobs.

If you want to talk about connections, try Dan Snow, son of Peter Snow, who got his break by co-presenting a series with his father.

Ramruna, exactly, and who is Dan? The great grandson of Lloyd George.

There is/has been a cabal of iffy,s in British society from royalty down, they have their agenda and that is the promotion and prominence of their "ilk" and they have proved to be very successful, this secular society suits their purpose no end as they the secularists that is are complete "roll over and tickle me" merchants, bring back Ollie Cromwell or maybe even Ollie Reid to sort em out.

@Barney21 -- when you call for the return of Oliver Reed, is that a thinly-veiled plea for more naked men wrestling on prime time television?
