McCririck was vocal in his criticism of the decision when it was announced last October and confirmed his intention to pursue Channel 4 and IMG Sports Media through the courts earlier this month.

His legal team have now issued an Employment Tribunal Form Number 1, a document which registers his complaint.

McCririck told Press Association Sport: "Channel 4 and IMG Sports Media were yesterday issued with an Employment Tribunal Form Number 1 claim for age discrimination.

"This follows my sacking after 29 years from Channel 4 Racing

"The ET1 was sent by my solicitor, Stephen Beverley of the London West End Cavendish Legal Group, to Channel 4's chief executive David Abraham, chief creative officer Jay Hunt and sports editor Jamie Aitchison.

"Also served with the form was Carl Hicks, chief executive of IMG Sports Media, who took over racing coverage from Highflyer this month.

"This follows my initial letter before action and is the second stage of ongoing legal proceeding seeking £500,000 for loss of future earnings, career damaging public humiliation, stress and mental anguish.

"A further £2.5m is being claimed in exemplary, punitive damages.

"My legal costs are all on a no-win no-fee basis.

"With age discrimination being illegal, under the 2010 Equality Act, every avenue is being pursued to fast-track proceedings with a determination that executives responsible for my dismissal can be cross-examined in public by my QC.

"The next stage of the process will follow shortly after the response from Channel 4 and IMG Sports Media's solicitors."

John isn't a nice man and he says that himself. He has brought punters and therefore  millions of pounds into British racing over the years imo whether you like him or not.

I think he has this age discrimintaion all wrong. The purpose of this legislation is to deter employers from overlooking suitably qualified job candidates in favout of less qualified younger candidates.
Surely McCririck was employed on a contract basis - the whole point of contracts as opposed to established full-time positions is that the contract offers the employer a chance to dispense with someone's services by not offering them a new contract.

So where does that leave his legal advisers?

If he was on a rolling contract, then surely the ungrateful sod didn't have a job, the way I understand a rolling contract it rolls on year by year until terminated, though it cannot be terminated during each 12 months.

So how the hell does the old fool think he was sacked when contract was not renewed (?) It's not the same when your employed on a contract basis, think the fat t wat is on thin ice here.  Be surprised if he gets a penny.  Barney saved him once, and C4 threw him a lifeline once, should be glad they had him for 29 years and nothing lasts forever.

"career damaging public humiliation"

OMG - is this the same BIG MAC off CH4
They surely must be joking.
Never seemed to bother much about humiliating others, before his 'contract' was not renewed.
A contract is just that, for a set period, and may or may not be renewed,by either party, when it ends.

He has spent years doing very little, and made a fortune from it. How he has the nerve to claim this has caused him 'public humiliation' is beyond me.

...and this was the oaf that was rolled out by the media whenever a horse racing story cropped up - as the man deemed to be 'the public face of racing'. Embarrassing and ludicrous. He should have gone a long time ago. Not wanted on our screens as an 'ambassador of the sport !!
