my mate gave me a couple of morden's books as he's given up on horses and taken up betting on the golf.
if his books are selling for this sort of cash then
try ebay as i'll be putting them up for auction soon.

According to Mordin's web site, you can email the great man for a list of times, although I'm not sure that offer is current since his writeups include many references to his secret formula to adjust for sectionals, and none to standard times, so perhaps he no longer uses them.

If you want to use speed figures without creating your own, then just look in the Racing Post or ATR or anywhere else that publishes them for free.

Come to think of it, the Post publishes, along with the race time, a statement of how fast or slow it was compared to the standard time. So for the cost of a little mental arithmetic, you can easily calculate the Post's standard times (although since the difference from standard is probably what you want, there might be little point in taking your socks off).

Ramruma, in the old days of buying the rp(pre 2004ish) there were many times their standard times were faster than the actual course records.

@fawwon, if the standard time is that taken by a good horse (rated 100 or whatever is the definition) and the course is used mainly by selling platers, you'd expect the standard time to be faster than the course record.

even if you had the books the times would be outdated...

When I was a time pervert on the old lingfield strip, bar the amateur jocks races, the rest of the races all went in the standard time pot.

You can download all the RP standard times by entering each course name in the "search" box

Ramruma. You've hit on an interesting point. The problem with Racing Post standard times is that they are based on averages.
From my research into the subject the standard times appear to be for (not intentionally) mature horses in class 4.
The problem is,in comparing a runner's time when that runner is not a mature class 4 horse.
It is necessary to know the going adjustment for any given day on each course.Racing Post publishes theirs.
How this is arrived at is complicated, but if you don't have separate standard times for each age/class/distance to base it on,
I don't see how it can have any meaning.
To clarify, you need a standard time for each race run on a give day. For example a class 6 claimer for 2 year olds would obviously have a different standard time than a class 4 hcp 4 yo+.
Only then can you come up with a reasonable assessment of the going adjustment.

You could try downloading racing senses free database. You'll find their standard times in the database.
I'd advise buying some of the Beyer books as well as there are deficiencies in Mordin's formula in that book.

doing your own SF is good fun but if you are trying to maximize punting £/(unit of effort) then you are better served using others like RF etc, they wont vary by too much if you are calculating them correctly
