What is your point? Were connections cheating? Have they paid off the opposition? Have they spent the last 4 races getting the horse down by that vital pound that made the difference today?

Why would he put people away just before the race unless it was an SP job (very unlikely) surely "any" money they would of had on would of been placed at the price they were happy with ?
May be me but i see no point in putting people away in these circumstance ???? |

True it all depends when the quote was given,you have to decide yourself but it just sows a seed of doubt.Personally I thought it had a chance but you have to live and die by your own sword. |

i have only once heard a trainer say words similar to " tell the viewers to get there money on it , we think it will p1ss it " , horse came in in price from about 40s on here to about 22 . it came last .
Anthony Knott off hand is the only owner i know that would/has said when being interviewed something similar , and his horse won . fair play to him . anyone know of any others ? |

I watch a fair bit of Aussie racing and the trainers/connections are almost uniformly bullish before the race and they are usually wrong. Is that better? Personally I take no notice of connection-speak. When i was an owner, i was always cautious what I said as I would hate it if the horse lost and my friends lost money.
For some reason, people think owners and trainers have this devine right to know who is going to win a race, in which they have an entry. |

Remember George Maggerson (not sure about spelling) being very bullish about one of his horses a few years back and it was rubbish.

Jack Berry had a 2yo called Oyston's Special, and was quoted in the Sporting Life before it ever ran as saying "if this one's not out of the top drawer, I'll eat my hat". You'd think if anyone had a good idea about how good one of his 2yo's was, it would be Jack Berry, as he had a stableful, and most were out early. It made its debut at York, went off odds-on in a 4-runner field, and was beaten about 10 lengths into 3rd. I'm not sure it ever won a race.

Saw Shark Hanlon interviewed on ATR a few years back say one of his would win, and it duly did at about 5-1. Loosely followed him ever since. If there's money for one of his, its usually a good sign.
