The Southland racing community is in mourning after life support was turned off this morning for jockey Ashlee Munday.

She was dislodged from her mount at the Kurow races yesterday when her horse clipped a heel of a horse in front.

The 26-year-old was taken to Dunedin Hospital with head injuries but has now died.

GallopSouth general manager Malcolm Little says the industry is devastated.

"Ashlee's a bubbly personality, she got on extremely well with all the owners and in particular a group of owners that I'm involved with, they think the world of her."

Her funeral will be held in her home town of Westport on Friday.
