**** weather **** racing same every xmas makes me sick

|

wetherby
packed to the rafters with bookmakers crowd mostly arrived late and numbers below expectations , maybe because of small fields , maybe because many assumed it would be off anyway business in a good pitch was reasonably busy but small but in poor pitches would have been hard work . most will have won a little , i won 4 - 2 raining very heavily for last race payout and while bob packed away. didn't leave the joint for tomorrow , must be doubtful |

You home already adge ? Crumbs that's the way to do it !! How would the other person with AP signage have done ? Not sure that two positions such as today would have done you any favours !

he won small [ he always wins ] but bet on the king george ..over a grand difference ]mind you, i'm looking at the book for kempton and it is the only race he lost on there

Rasen was a bit slow to get going but pretty busy on rails although very, very small stakes, so nothing unusual there. Last race business was slightly quieter as most were watching KG on big screen which when finished didn't leave punters a lot of time to get their bets on. Only one fav obliged and that was co-fav of 3 but no individual results led to a 'rlyl-style' twirl of the RP

53 uk races 1 double-digit priced winner! Come racing!
|
|
By:
That's interesting adge - so what does that make the other pitches worth ? Every one I assume being for sale at a price - even yours and the revered Roger's ?
Do you know the id. of the buyer - a simple 'yes' or 'no' will do. |
|
By:
yes , recently bought no 5 in doncaster silver [ flat ] too
|

rasen very small but busy for me as well.could have lost on every race if you were unlucky.last race quiet though i saw a 2250/1000 cash the last winner(not with me).got a fair wage so not to bad.recession biting,i think the racecourses need to get real.lack of cash on **** meant always had at least 2% a runner on board.think theres a bit of realism creeping in regards figures.hope so.

Sedgefield
Crowd not too bad but nowt startling.Money only poor, biggest bet all day £100 E.W..It'll be Wetherby for me next year. |
|
By:
Rasen Silver. Around 10% down on tickets and cash compared to last year. Ring busy didn't turn up on time to do the pitches. Not sure what happened in the end as Chris Johnson started to sort it out. Perhaps we don't need them anymore ?

hope you had a good Christmas, how’s the system going keeping the fav's, a couple of years ago laying on here at Kempton I would try and get the 1st and 2nd fav's in the book even though on here betting to a shocking percentage plus commission looked impossible, I have now realised keeping the 1st and 2nd fav’s is the best option. Played the first 5 races at Kempton today ever one a skinner I realise where I’ve been going wrong in the last 5 years. |

By:
Looked on the tv like only one layer in the Silver at Sedgefield - is that true ?
|
|
By:
Sedgefield looked difficult, agree with adge re wetherby, unlike charlie hall the pitch near the members was better than the other end, think the biggest bet i saw was £200 and averaged only £9 a bet, stopped raining now so could well be on tomorrow, looks like 3 odds on shots and 2 more skinny ones tomorrow.

What has Doncaster Flat Silver got to recommend it adge ? Has the Butts got anything to worry about concerning the new blood or its longevity as a Ring ? I hope the latter has some life expectancy if significant sums are changing hands for pitches ?

£9 a slip you don’t know how lucky you are rang the shop tonight even though it’s my day off, she said Ronnie we have had a quiet day and the average slip was less than £4!!. The shop rent and rates is 1200 week, do you think we are in trouble ribero? |
|
By:
Does that include the machines ronnie?
Anyhow on a day were results in general didn't look anything special it's always reassuring to know that Regit strides on relentlessly in profit. |
|
By:
Ronnie you could try going back to being a proper bookmaker
Still I shouldn't say too much your firm laid me a £200 bet today |

On Christmas Eve no racing I took a round of drinks just short of 10k on the machines, Supposed to finish at 5pm and at 5.40 still counting the poxy change. Profit of 2k take it from me it’s why the bookmakers shares are going through the roof. Next time you see the father of the pretty girl that works now and again for you, ask him where he thinks their shares will end up £2.50 at least. |

£200 it must be flaming christmas, plus you found a good manager, if it had been me i would have asked if you wanted more sir !! |

RR lol...... I did see a sign in their shop the other day saying they would lay any horse in the King George to loose 10k..... I hope that meant no knockbacks to anybody regardless of their tag

One of the most well respected bookmakers in my time was Ron Bolton can you remember him he always kept the favourite on his side, re the 10k it is for everybody except as you probably know x grades! Had a good day and now getting tired and emotional so of to bed before my 13 hour shift tomorrow, and no I’m not driving the other half’s chauffeuring (see the Gerry Anderson thread) |

Towcester well down on a normal boxing day, money small (£6 a slip average). Apart from recession, it started raining before race 3 and didn't stop until we were taking down. Also freezing and windy. There were a significant number of fancied horses who were withdrawn which doesnt help and only 3 places in a couple of races which prompted a number of my colleagues to stick up the 1/6th odds sign to trap the mugs. Shameful.

should have took your advice about backing Chepstow to be off might then have copped twice but have never edged (hope it's spelt right) in my life, I like to stay in my comfort zone and either backing or laying. Not like years ago when I used to stop up all night watching teletext after buying or selling the total points in American football, what on earth was I thinking of. |

Ronnie
After the first three I was only £350 down(not bad for 3 jollies winning)I then stood the 6 horse( 3's into 9/4 jolly I believe) for plenty got it beat & was back to level with a 2nd in winning. The race where there were 3 thin uns I went with the right one to get my nose in front.Stood the last jolly for a few quid but the placings eased the pain.Overall won £100 before eccies(not many could say that)so looking at it with I believe 4 favs 2 2nd in & a 3rd choice I must have been doing something right. The way I was working I would have lost at least a grand with those results. Anyhow all the best for the new year & I'll have to call in the shop sometime when you're up here. We'll have to have a bit craic whilst the best manageress Joes have in the area plies us with tea & those chocolate biscuits she keeps hidden round the back of that counter. As for the middle that man on his own was quite busy so I would imagine he may have got wages. |
|
By:
thought the new system was to follow the shorteners in price and lay the drifters? one gets beat 3 into 9/4 and its laid for plenty?
|
|
By:
Smurphy you're spot on there.Still we are still only learning. When he told me what it was for there was a moment of meditation & a walk to that building round the back so that I'd keep my gob shut.Still it appears to be an improvement on how I used to work, just standing the jollies for a minimum amount(which was only a few hundred)but the turnover wasn't enough to carry on doing that.

SEDGEFIELD,PLAYED WITH A STRAIGHT BAT ALL DAY(NOT ONE PENNY BACK ON HERE)BUSINESS AVG, LOST 6-1,LAID A 2K TO 1K HAD HALF BACK WITH B%K(KEEP IT IN THE RING)AND WAS GIVEN A LOVELY BIG PEN AND TO MY SUPRSISE IT DIDNT SAY BETFAIR IT SAID B%K(WHICH I THOUGHT WAS A NICE TOUCH)
![]() ![]() ![]() |
|
By:
it must have won.
you would have got a diary to go with the pen if it had lost |
|
By:
Kempton Park, looked absolutely horrendous if you played with a straight bat, (flash bookie style). Four one down going into the last and although a winner in the win book (8/1) the remaining two places (7/1, A P McCoy and 9/1) with the first and second favourites (2/1 and 9/4) unplaced, could have turned that into a losing race also!
flash, you did right, not going, especially given what the expenses would have been, ('cause i don't come cheap)! ![]() |
