Long Run has a serious engine. If he could jump no horse would get near him.
Report flyingbolt December 26, 2012 3:20 PM GMT
I agree with Edward.

in racereading mugs and ruk goons going on about the mistake down the back, bad jump but kept going forward but the 2 jumps at the final 2 were far more serious blunders, the one at the 2nd last almost brought him to a standstill
Report larrence December 26, 2012 3:30 PM GMT
totally agree robbie, well said m8.
Report flyingbolt December 26, 2012 3:32 PM GMT
FFS robbie fowler ruby etc are not going to ride the horse. That's why he wasn't evens today. When are you and your ilk going to grasp this fact.

Spot on.mate.
I thought he was beat after the last. He did really well to get him back on an even keel and running.
Report nicky27 December 26, 2012 3:33 PM GMT

Ted Walsh wasn't impressed
Report SlippyBlue December 26, 2012 8:50 PM GMT
I was on, not aftertiming as I put Long Run as the winner last night and was my nap of the day.
If he got Long Run beat today the forum would have gone into meltdown about SWC the likes of which have never been seen before. The horse won despite the the pilot. If it was my horse I'd let him put the saddle on but he wouldn't be sitting on it that's for sure.
Report Hayden December 26, 2012 8:54 PM GMT
The jockey ability is factored into the price especially in a market as strong as a King George , if you're price sensitive & one of these tedious punters who bang on about wanting Walsh or Geraghty to ride the horse then you'd be looking at nearer 11/10 rather than the 15/8 SP today.

You get what you pay for in this life   Happy

Thank God the Horse Won,Sam would have got Hung Drawn And Quartered on here if he was Second.

Sam Waley Cohen owes me 200 pound after the Fakenham fiasco, however after todays ride I will be prepared to waive the refund.
Report sickoflayinwinners December 26, 2012 9:08 PM GMT
harden , you are spot on  sir , sams ability/inability  is always factored in to long runs price.its not a secret, we know what he is, we know he is/will be on it.
Report SlippyBlue December 26, 2012 9:17 PM GMT
Acey, he would have ended up in the stocks at Hampton Court Palace being bombarded with rotten fruit from the Betfair masssif.Wink
He won and well done, it was a very long final furlong though, I've got enough grey hairs as it is.

Report ReaseHeath December 26, 2012 10:15 PM GMT
not saying SWC was perfect but he took LR over to the rail to race with Captain Chris after the second last and he did n't incur a whip ban!
Report lustrumm December 26, 2012 11:01 PM GMT
Funny enough# I watched the race on C4 live where they lauded SWC for a great ride etc..
Then watched RTE2 off Sky+ later on where Ted Walsh slated the jockey saying his inability to switch whip hand is pitiful and the horse was only dossing while waiting for a left hander.
I agree with the latter FWIW

Name ONE jockey pro or amateur with a better record than SWC per horses he has ridden?
Report GT-MOLE December 26, 2012 11:16 PM GMT
Even refine it per % of horses for his father or other owners?
Report ACStafford December 26, 2012 11:18 PM GMT
Waley Cohen gets far too much stick. There's no denying that Long Run would be better with Geraghty on his back, but we all know the crack before we place our bets, and I think he does a bloody good job for an amateur. Its his dad's horse and, if he wants to stick with Sam, fair play to him.
Report ReaseHeath December 26, 2012 11:21 PM GMT
his dad is the hardest looking old posh bloke I've seen - Hendo would do well not to argue!
Report the dealer December 26, 2012 11:29 PM GMT
they dont do it for the money but for the enjoyment of the sport. he's an amateur jockey, has never confessed to be anything else. what you see is what you get,  his father is lucky enough to be able to fund his sons passion to a high level. good luck to them, days like today are what its all about for the Waley Cohens.
Report GT-MOLE December 26, 2012 11:31 PM GMT
Well said TD,without their ilk there would not be NH racing.
Report the dealer December 26, 2012 11:35 PM GMT

Lads i know im talking to a noledgable bunch who ve never had a losing race but come on.SWC chased a suicidal pace in the ground against the worst field i can remember in the KG and was allout to beat a none stayer who was nursed into the race and never going to find feck all off the snaff,if that donkey runs a place in the gold cup i ll stop gambling.
Report GT-MOLE December 27, 2012 12:23 AM GMT
STOP gambling then..........name the first 2.............and the 3RD?
Report ReaseHeath December 27, 2012 12:39 AM GMT
'that donkey' now won 2 King Georges and a Gold Cup....and still only 7yo.
Report Punting for Profit December 27, 2012 10:52 AM GMT
i backed him,bad ride but he is an amateur, that was factored into the price, what do we expect, but all worked out well in the end,a terrible King George in terms of quality, but a great one in terms of excitement.
