Seriously my boyhood hero for some reason was Brian Taylor. He was just about to retire when he accepted a chance ride in Hong Kong on a known rogue. The horse threw him, kicked him on the head and basically killed him. Very similar to Manny Mercer more than 20 years before but Mercer is much better remembered.

1983 ayr gold cup Kevin Hodgson on polly's brother gave one 18 yr old a 5k lift backed from 33's ante post, won a sh hd from ameghino.
Nicky carlise gave me my biggest laugh at the races one day at musselburgh.
It was end of racing on a miserable day weather wise & handsome nick had just turned over the fav in the last which i was on with a total squib of a horse as he was prone to do.
Anyway there i was standing potless in the pissing rain in a mud laden car park waiting for my lift when wee Nicky saunters up to this big flashy bmw next to me loads his gear in the boot and takes off.
wee hurry fed Nicky,a right job jockey on the lightweights though.

There is only one Piggott . The best ever. I can still picture one of his rides where in the last furlong he was actually facing backwards to pick a spot where to hit the horse  to make sure he won and he did. I think it was the Sun Chariot stakes.  Cant remember the horse.
