You did NOT "See," the, "horses not trying," - in the 70s .....
Because EVERY race was NOT on the TELEVISION.
BUT there WERE plenty of them.
However,. You had to 'find them'/work them out for yourself by ...
Listening to the Commentaries - IMMEDIATELY after the race, AND Later, Pour through the RESULTS, and 'wonder why such and such did NOT run up to expectations - allayed with your built-up knowledge of who the likely Trainers and Jockeys were, who would be 'having it to themselves'....
Then, remember those scenarios for the future.
Same THEN - as it is NOW ....
You only get out of this game AS MUCH as you PUT INTO IT.
But - for the vast majority - that latter part is a mental impossibility.
