amazing thing is neesom and machin failed to mention it in their post race analysis - are they blind!!
By:
rode to the marker for the chase course
![]() RUK may notice anytime soon! |
By:
It is racing uk after last night anythings poss
By:
He misjudged the winning line, ofcourse Machin, Neeson, McNae all missed it, but don't think it made much difference.
By:
no i agree - but you'd think would have spotted it and at least discussed it
By:
Don't think it made a difference.
Just highlights the race reading skills of these alleged racing journalists. |
By:
fair enough the 2 at the track with a small monitor but McNae, does he actually spot anything??

The Stewards held an enquiry to consider why Daryl Jacob, the rider of ULIS DE VASSY (FR) had appeared to stop riding for a few strides shortly before the winning post, before continuing to ride again. Having heard his evidence and viewed recordings of the race they found him in breach of Rule (B)59.4 and guilty of failing to ride out on a horse that could have been placed first. They suspended him for 10 days as follows: Thursday 20, Friday 21, Saturday 22, Wednesday 26, Thursday 27, Friday 28, Saturday 29, Sunday 30 and Monday 31 December 2012 and Tuesday 1 January 2013.

Oi Oi
Well spotted RUK.... |
By:
I seriously doubt he may have come first.
Seems harsh. I suspect the NH stewards have received some communique saying "get tough." |
By:
![]() seen worse though to be honest, but rules is rules (aren't they Jimmy Fortune) |
By:
Angus sayed he rode to the mowed strip - no he didnt, it was a path - strewth!
By:
He made a genuine mistake and tried to get going again, Jimmy Fortune stopped riding 100yards from the line by choice and got caught for 3rd and got 0 days, crazy.
By:
Hindsight is a wonderful thing on RUK.
By:
Asking for trouble having a path + a marker just before winning line. Course deserves criticism too, imo.
By:
ged--get real what about that big stick with a red hoop on top--that is a winning post not a poxy path that runs across the course
By:
James Best just misread the line too, clearly a problem post at work today between the hurdle and chase course.
By:
peeler - the poxy path is very similar to the poxy mown strip that runs across the winning line. It's unnecessarily similar. As for 'the big red hoop' - if the jockey's got his head down (which almost all jocks do have when riding a finish), it's not going to be nearly as visible to him/her travelling at 30mph as it is to someone watching on TV, or anybody else in a stationary position on course. There must be a simple clearer alternative to what they've got. And as for 'get real' - you've just seen the reality - it's misled the course's top rider at the track today.
By:
i would agree ged that the path that is in line with a marker 50 yards before the winning line is going to cause confusion .
still the jockeys fault though |
By:
Just my luck ...
LAID the previously perpetually loser Quaddick Lake - when it finally won last time. BACKED - ULIS DE VASSY today. ![]() |
By:
The fact of the matter is 99% of jockeys are thick......rest assured he will do it again as will many others.
By:
Shouldn't the courses' leading rider know where the winning post is?
By:
Of course he knew
By:
peeler i agree with ged ...why thuff huck have they a line a nd a post 1/2f out? and its easy to see wots wot watching the tele yfdsc
By:
What exactly does the comment "of course he knew" mean?
As others have rightly said, the extra marker pole and the line across the course were the cause of the problem here. That doesn't entirely exonerate the jockey but both were clearly factors in his error. |
By:
Some of the all time greats have made a similar mistake - Anthony Knott for example
By:
That ride takes the biscuit imo.....Was it his first time at the track imo?
By:
This is not the first time this has happened at wincanton on the hurdle track.
In the elite hurdle a few years ago, kings quay jumped the last on terms, forged ahead, jockey eased down mistaking path for winning line luckily his momentum just got him home a head. Still 5 years later and nothing done about it. |
By:
The course's seem quite happy to leave things as they are, and let the jockeys take the blame, when things go wrong. Many of these situations could be totally avoided, with a bit of effort on their part.Something like a colored strip across the course on the winning line, it's not rocket science!.Good to see Fakenham have finally done something.
