Countrywide Flame: John Quinn, trainer: “He’s in fine fettle and I’m very happy with him. He was second in the Finale on testing ground and second at Leopardstown in heavy ground but he would prefer better ground. It was Dougie’s decision not to ride but Denis is a top-class jockey and he’ll have no problems on him. He is a very versatile horse in terms of how he can be ridden so it is not a worry for me the size of the field. I’ve got him in at Leopardstown over Christmas and I’ll look at the next Cheltenham meeting and there’s also the Christmas Hurdle so he’s got plenty of options but I’d definitely prefer if it was on.” (11 mins ago)

Out for the run in a £58k race ? Behind at the start, never put the horse in the race at any time, what was all that about ? Trainers can get horses to win big races without a run these days, baffled.

Winner visually very impressive but second has either been sent out woefully short of peak fitness (most of the stables horses are ridden to exploit a fitness advantage but this one clearly wasn't) or is way short of Champion Hurdle class.

Wouldn't surprise me at all if it works out that last year's Triumph was a better race than the Supreme. Certainly was that way the year before. |

How can the ground have been excuse - won twice on heavy and on soft - presumably it's a different type of heavy at Haydock? If anything on past history the ground should have been against the winner. The winner is solid but if he is a realistic 8/1 chance almost anything may as well pitch up in March.
