The company has lodged a complaint with the European Commission arguing that legislation passed in July is discriminatory and disproportionate. Martin Cruddace, chief legal and regulatory officer at Betfair, said: “Having played a constructive role in the preparatory phase of a draft Cypriot law, we were disappointed with the inclusion of elements within it which could unfairly discriminate Betfair and in any event are clearly incompatible with EU law.”
The new law restricts the ability of betting exchanges, such as Betfair, which operate by allowing punters to bet against each other, creating their own odds rather than a market created by a bookie.
The Cypriot government has argued that the new legislation is needed to combat money laundering and match-fixing. Betfair has countered it will do no such thing, describing the concerns as “unfounded and misinformed” and accusing the government of producing no evidence to back up its claims.
“Betfair is a transparent and responsible operator, with a track record of working co-operatively alongside governments in any jurisdiction in which it operates,” Mr Cruddace said. “Current Cypriot law goes against European free-market principles and we look forward to working with the commission and the Cypriot government so we can continue to provide our Cypriot customers with Betfair’s best-in-class Exchange product and odds value.”
A source close to the company said Betfair was determined to fight the ruling as it felt it was discriminatory given the fact the company’s main competitor in Cyprus, OPAP, would not be affected by the new law. Betfair continues to operate in the country while it appeals against the decision by Cyprus to the EC. The new legislation will have to go back to the Cyprus parliament before it comes into law.

Yet again the above struggle by the Betfair company to be allowed to operate freely while another type of gambling format or company or companies has supreme control over the political decision making processes it seems alway sin their favor , or freedoms to operate . So much for the European dream that allows for a better Europe when in reality it burdens member states with over regulation and then"kicks the crutches away" from countries that cant tow the line over interest payments while the German bank and economy grows stronger every day at a rate that cant be matched by its so called equals within Europe.
Hard times for some with restrictions and great times for others does not underline either a free world nor a free market IMVHO.....

The Australian goverment in its wisdom has decided that a sporting exchange is actually a traditinal bookmaker and can survive by paying a fixed amount of betting turnover that can in reality damage completly the livihood of an exchange unfairly againts advanteaged other companies.

No company can operate from outside the USA and let US citizens place a single dollar while 888 , a part of a casino giant has won exclusive rights to have gambling in certain states over the internet.

With some imagination Betfair is available everywhere. It really is amazing that an innovative company like Betfair is banned yet these countries promote huge state takeout racing options and various non skilled, high take out lotteries. That is why Europe is on the brink of collapse.

Living in the Netherlands, I use a UK IP to watch BBC iPlayer. Could this work for Betfair in banned countries? Obviously you'd need an account in the UK, but if you need to gamble; things should be easy to arrange.

It depends whether you have a clue or not ----------------------
We DO all know about PROXY Servers.... SMART A8SE.
However - The ORIGINAL Post/Qustion is about Kosher Betfair ACCESS
However - there are other stories of gambling sites ALLOWING you to bet via PROXIES - whilst you LOSE - BUT then NOT paying out and confiscating BALANCES IF you should Win.

I didn't even know that the question had been asked before on here so I was definitely not going to say exactly how to do it.

So, where in Europe can you use Betfair now?? .....So much for an open market.........
The question clearly implies accredited access, not "So, where in Europe can you use Betfair now?? ...with a póxy proxy. Onlooker I think you are wasting your time on this one mate.

proxy server gets around all the restrictions. personally think there should be some leeway ie if you're just travelling and in / out of the country in a few days then you should have access. Longer stays then denied. If you're a citzen of a country that fully allows it and you use it there 99% of the time then you should be able to use it for a couple of days when not in a permitted zone. but don't think the systems in place are smart enough to keep track and monitor all of that. as i said....any proxy server gets around all of this.
