Report kangaroo • November 12, 2012 7:54 PM GMT
Hi slickster, not fishing worked in the racing industry for 30 + years. Iwill write aletter to racing post then contact ibas if no joy but what ever the outcome just trying to give information so that other punters dont lose out when they back a winner? The bet is not gonna make or break me but do believe in justice????????? This is the e-mail i received from Jessica at customer services. Our shop systems are designed to take any bet regardless of if they are in the system or not.It is down to the customer to see if we are taking bets on the event or not,Unfortunately the bet will stand as void.Sorry slickster dont go fishing its boring????????????????
Report slickster • November 12, 2012 8:15 PM GMT
listen there is no way even sads can "void" a bet like this. if you are telling the truth and they wont cough up BRING THEM TO COURT!!!!! they are 100% in the wrong.
Report Banned_Banks • November 12, 2012 8:17 PM GMT
Slickster how are they in the wrong if they state in their rules that they don't take bets on the event in question?

(no idea if that is the case or not)

i know you can't call them bookies any more but this is too much. how low can they sink?
the bet was taken. bloke has a few quid on a horse. ooo ooooh it's running in italy. we better void it. pull the other one.
Report homefortea • November 12, 2012 8:32 PM GMT
Million to one on that you will get paid if indeed you are not fishing.

How can Ladcocks have a rule stating that they do not take bets on a Group One Event with the card and result published in the Racing Post...

YAWN...

That would mean that they do not take bets on ANY foreign cards printed in that esteemed organ that are not covered by SIS !!!

Time for all backers to demand refunds on French German and Australian racing....

Melbourne Cup and Cox Plate backers form an orderly queue...
Report Banned_Banks • November 12, 2012 8:40 PM GMT
Homefortea you need to lose your RP obsession!

You are also missing the point. It is all down to the rules. If they want to include a rule that states that they don't take bets on Cheltenham they would be quite within their rights to void all such bets this weekend regardless of the fact that the RP produced a nice colour Cheltenham pull out and had a picture of Grands Crus on the front cover.

Whether the rules are ridiculous or not is another matter entirely.

Hi slickster have just e-mailed IBAS with my case will let you know the outcome as soon as?As i said in my thread which was pulled for some reason? What betting shop would you ever ask if they were betting on a group 1 in italy which was advertised in the racing post with betting and the result came through with dividends? As far as i know you can bet on any sporting outcome eg boat race whether it will snow on xmas day etc etc etc as yul bryner used to say.

The bet was accepted subject to the rules. The fact is that the staff haven't bothered looking at them until later.

Regardless of that is there not someone in a Lads shop now who can have a look at the rules and see if they cover Capannelle and put an end to this sorry tale!

Report Paul Haigh - Total Respect • November 12, 2012 9:36 PM GMT
My understanding is that the race was not available on their website, and therefore not available to shop customers either.

Assuming that's the case, IBAS will rule in favour of the bookmaker.

If the customer stated that he was referring it to the Small Claims Court instead, he would be long odds on to be paid out before it reached court.
Report denathorn • November 13, 2012 9:38 AM GMT
Just wanted to post this snippet. It was when prince william married and Billie's were offering a free £2 bet on the time that Kate would arrive at the church. They had around 5 options, with prices on each. As a regular customer I had been in at around 9am and picked the fav time to win. I backed a couple of virtual races and they came in so I thought for an interest why not have a big single bet on the same time. I staked £150 on the Fav time advertised and went home. Kate duly arrived at that time. WIN

When I went to collect my winnings the manager told me they did not accept singles on the time, and were only offering free £2 bets as a gesture, but would contact head office to see what could be done.

Result? Paid in full, right there, right then. The moral was they took the bet and would honour it. I guess some bookies have more credibility than others.
Report BARROWBOY • November 13, 2012 9:48 AM GMT
it says everything you need to know about this rancid company, that they're happy to take bets on races that never happen(cartoon racing),but apparently void bets on those involving real horses & jockies.
Report BARROWBOY • November 13, 2012 10:00 AM GMT
btw,you can access the campanelle result on the wh site, but i cant see it on l/crookes which suggests they were unaware of it.As far as the bets concerned though theres still the problem that a lumpy bet would certainly have had to be rung through,no doubt at that point the question of bet validity should have been sorted.
Report BARROWBOY • November 13, 2012 10:08 AM GMT
hold on,on the wh site heading the actual result it says UK 09.51,so if thats the real off time maybe the race had been run before the OP had put his bet on,hence the void.

Report homefortea • November 13, 2012 11:07 AM GMT
This debate has taken a disturbing turn !! Barrowboy reckons the race was run in the morning - in Italy !!

Paul Haigh reckons that everything Ladcocks bet on is on their website hence there will be no need for "empty" (or whatever Laddies call them) bets that have to be manually settled ....

Here are Ladbrokes shop rules. help.ladbrokes.com/utility/getfile.aspx?rid=598  The only mention of foreign racing is HORSE RACING
Rules of Racing
We accept bets on specified races staged under Jockey Club and National Hunt Rules in Great Britain and
equivalent organisations abroad.

There is no mention of which meetings or races that are deemed either acceptable or unacceptable.

Copied and pasted from their on line Horse Racing Rules

Acceptance of bets

We accept bets on specified races staged under Jockey Club and National Hunt Rules in Great Britain. We are also pleased to accept horseracing bets on major races taking place across the world. Details of these races will appear on our website.

So, would it be described as a major race? A Group One in Italy most definately yes. Was it on their website? We are led to believe it wasn't. The question is, what do the shop rules state? I shall visit the local Laddies this afternoon and report back.
Report DMCK • November 13, 2012 11:32 AM GMT
i asked in a shop for a price on shanghai bobby for the Kentucky derby, ladcrooks not offering market on their website, the girl phoned head office and gave me a price of 10-1, shorter than  elsewhere but they gave it to me even tho not on the web, i think the guy has to be paid but it would help if he had put sp on his bet then he'd get the industry return as per racing post rather than racecourse Div (interestingly some bookies only pay div from germany and Oz SIS racing)
Report Prophet or Doom • November 13, 2012 11:49 AM GMT
With nothing apparently specific in their rules, the onus of responsibility should largely be down to them. Just as they expect you to know the rules, so they should expect the staff to know the rules. The staff member who took the bet should be aware of which meetings/races are acceptable. The failure of the staff to detect that the bet is "apparently" unacceptable should have known that and told you. Their failure to do so, must put the responsibility on themselves.
Report Prophet or Doom • November 13, 2012 11:52 AM GMT
It does say in the rules however:  Fairness and Openness
We pride ourselves on our customer service and our commitment to operating our business fairly and in a
responsible way.

If they are going to be fair, and accept the responsibilty for accepting the bet, then they should pay you.
Report Lance in France • November 13, 2012 2:56 PM GMT
As promised the wording from the rules in a shop...

RULES OF RACING

We accept bets on specific races staged under Jockey Club and National Hunt rules in Great Britain and equivalent organisations abroad.

There you have it. Obviously the race was run under the rules of the Italian Jockey Club, so was it a specific race or not? In my opinion, it has been left open to abuse from the rule maker. If your bet wins it was not a specific race, if it loses then no more is said about the matter, all bets accepted.

Way to ambiguous to be of help to the poor punter

To be fair the whole thing is getting a bit farcical nowadays.

Without wishing to get into the machines/shops/online debate it is clear that the firms are now making it obvious that they just want "recreational" punters and have no real interest in getting involved with more serious punters.

It is a battle to see who can get the biggest slice of the mug market rather than a battle to see who is the most skilled bookmaker. Mind you when you look at the figures they churn out you can hardly blame them for this strategy. Why invest chunks of money chasing high risk cash when they are drowning in zero risk mug money.
