My situation is despite having used family and friends accounts in the past these have now been closed or restricted so severely that at present I can only use my Betfair account.                          I presume  the bookmakers have made the link between these accounts using my I.P address.
I have the opportunity  to open one last set of accounts which I will open at my friends house using his computer and his internet connection.
Am i correct in thinking that if i use my existing hardware, laptop, iPad/iphone but in future only use 3G or internet cafes, the bookmakers will not be able to make the link between this new account and my previous accounts.

you can hide your ip by going thru a proxy server,or theres software out there that can mask your ip with constantly changing ip addresses.
check this out http://www.hidemyass.com/

Easy-Hide-IP is an advanced IP changer to bypass virtually any form of censorship or internet traffic blocking imposed on you by your ISP, your company or by third parties. Your internet traffic is routed through remote servers.

Only the IPs of the remote servers will appear your ISP's log file, not the sites you have visited. Easy Hide IP protects your identity by replacing your real IP address with a different one. You will appear to access the internet from a different location, not your own.

Your real location is never revealed. Change / hide IP address. Choose your geographic location. Access to our high speed servers. Automatically hide IP every X minutes. Works with Internet Explorer, Firefox and Chrome. Just start the application, select an IP address to use and click on the 'Hide IP' button.

What's new in this version: Version 4.1.7 updates the core component and fixes bugs introduced in the previous version.

Delta is correct.
These days, if you show just an inkling that you know what you're doing, your account is heavily restricted within days.
The game is gone I'm afraid.

thecount - you are assuming its the ip address thats the problem and not your betting activity. Yoiu could alos use a dongle like 3G, it produces a different ip address every time you log on.

Yes i will need to restrict the use and amounts on these new accounts and try not to take early standout prices, which I have done in the past.
It will be good to have an alternative to Betfair again for however long it lasts.

my advice is to either use the dongle or just have phone accounts , phone accounts are harder to trace for obvious reasons

use betfair on your main pc, have a cheap bog standard secondary pc or laptop next door with a 3g or t-mobile dongle plugged in it.

check Daves reply , as it is not just your ip , it is also if you use same computer , 365 are hottest at tracking this, they also go to the lengths of linking accounts via social network etc .
By:

thats why they ask for your passport, for age verification and also to cross reference agst Facebook and Twitter photo to link accounts between friends and family

more likely it is simply your betting patterns they don't like.
i tried new laptops, dongles, public wifi. none of it made any difference with the majority of firms in my experience.
the risk controls in place are very rigid now.

its not the IP addy they are finding ou by, as 99 percent are dynamic, its your mac number they are logging and thn connecting counts to, just use the phone, different pay and go sims for each account.

Can you hide your mac address in the same way you can hide your IP address?

thanks mover - but is that necessary or even possible as it says you need to substitute your mac address with that of another computer on the network????
Is it more important to hide your IP address than your mac address?

Anyone got any updates to this?
By:

use a cheap throwaway laptop with WIFI (you can pick these up for about a ton on Fleabay), add a USB broadband dongle at about a tenner a month (different IP every time you log on), when you are finished with a set of accounts then just nuke the laptop (complete hard drive reformat and windows reinstallation) and start over.

OP hasn't posted for 4 years, so the probability of you getting an update on his cunning plan is fairly remote imho

What Northanlite says seems to hold true for me now these days.  It doesn't seem to matter what you do, it's all about the bets you have and the prices you take and when you take them.

I opened 6 accounts with the same firm on my iphone. Either I have found the answer or Betway couldn't be arsed to check.

Adds support to the view it is the pattern of bets that is crucial -- not the device or IP address. As an experiment, use three of the accounts to place the same arbs and see what gets closed.

arb! How dare you suggest that. Laugh

Good idea, I do of course have "always block cookies" activated, and clear out the cache before opening an account, to wipe out any possible traces from ny last account.

If it IS the pattern of bets, that is good news.

The good thing is, after 14 years on here (cannyman originally) I still find it worthwhile to pay for a new bank card.

I have opened accounts in family member names using VPN to hide IP address and had them shut down pretty quickly on some occassions. I wonder if they know a VPN is being used or consistently betting from multiple IP addresses is a sign that it is an account they don't want. I now use a smart phone to place bets using a pay as you go sim. Only used for betting and nothing else done on phone. These accounts are being given a fair chance.

I have no controll of any Hills accounts currently. But I have had some decent bets put on for me on step sons account. Betvictor seems to be best for taking bigger bets .

That surpises me. I have always classed BV to be almost the worst.

Betvictor was the one bookmaker I was losing too in my own name. Got cases of wine at Christmas invites to private box at Royal Ascot. Wined and dined at Victor Chandler chase day. Fantastic service and got what ever I wanted. Even when back in front still got big bets on. Eventually closed down. 2 subsequent accounts both allowed bigger than normal bets before closure .

Normally, never have any problem with BV or 365 for the amount I normally want on ie £50-£100. Coral normally pretty good, 888 part bet taken, rest referred to trader then normally excepted. All other accounts either restricted, closed or effectively closed. Even though BV & 365 take the full amount I want I still try & split the bet up. There's quite a few of the lesser known bookies I haven't opened accounts with after the hassle I had with BetDim trying to get my money off them. Sad

Well, I can honestly say, sultan, i;ve had about 15 accounts with BV or VC as they were, and the longest lasting one was a month. Obviously I'm taking stand out, or joint stand out prices. Therein lies the problem.

If you end up with 6 losing Betway accounts then they are more than happy about that. Have one or more winning accounts and/or try to make a decent sized withdrawal from any of them once in profit and that's where you could have problems, seeing as it's already likely they have linked the accounts or will do some time in the future.

So this is where they are out of order because if they have already linked them then they want the best of both worlds by waiting to see if they make money from them, yet could already tell you the score as soon as they made the link and ban all or all bar one account of your choice from placing bets.
