I work for corals and over the last six months my shop has lost three important customers who*s average monthly spend between them is around £4000. All we have done is taken away treble the odds for one winner and reduced best odds guaranteed races to one a day. i have pointed out to my manager that this has had an effect on shop turnover etc etc We have also lost several monitored customers and on a an afternoon myself and a work colleague can play i spy to our hearts content as we have virtually no race to race bettors. We restrict customers to £25 at our local dog tracks and the word has obviously got round the town that you cant get a decent bet on at corals. A week gone sunday we took 22 betting slips yes 22 !!!!!!!!!! Our local betfred shop now welcomes corals customers with open arms.

To top it all we have to do an action plan stating how we would look after a mystery shopper who will come into the shop have a free coffee a machine demo and ask for a price on Swaziland to win the next world cup - im sure this is much more important than getting our customers back - staff moral in our area is lower than a rattlesnakes belly with people going on the sick and handing their notice in.

We are also being forced to work unpaid overtime as we cannot open the fobts until after 930 on a night - if we run out of money during the day we cannot open machines until 530pm - i was left managing the shop a few weeks ago with 300 quid 250 of which was in coins and i couldnt pay customers out till 530pm - i rang my area manager to get permission to open them and was told we are not a bank and ask the customers to come back.

APART FROM THIS EVERYTHING IS FINE IN THE WORLD OF CORAL RACING - DONT FORGET NEVER QUARREL BET WITH CORAL !!!!!!!!!!!!!Confused

I understand that ebulgery , but these people are leading a very stressful and unrewarding life in these shops , and the people they work for are probably the most demanding and uncaring in any sector .

I know a few who done the job and none are still in the job or have a good word to say about it , when you think of the multi million ad campagns these books run and the crap they lay on thier employees , they deserve a lot better
Report ebulGery October 27, 2012 1:01 AM BST
I totally agree with that Hello

...if they can find something better they should leave
but I would not advise anyone to make themselves unemployed if they can help it

as long as you had the willpower to resist gembling away everything you earnt

I work for the same independant I have for the last fifteen years, with 3 cashiers on the firm who have all been there longer than me. The Boss regularly empties his own shops of punters when he takes them to the pub for a beer or 5, we pay treble odds luckies, and guarantee every handicap race. Sometimes can't see the slips for laughing, we run the shops how we see fit, and basically open and close when we like. Have sometimes found other Independents run along similar lines, try to hunt them out, staff and punters alike, never beleive the "hype" of the big firms, as some of their managers try to tell me they are better off where they are with thesecurity of av big outfit..... doubt any of them be there with all same colleages 20 yrs later.....

Funny enough I walked passed your shop today; it was very quiet however betfred was extremely busy, the customer’s corals used to have were all in there doing their lucky 15’s at treble the odds!!

p.s. your team cost me a ton today, were you there?

Hope you will be wearing your new coral t-shirt promoting the corals machine drop with pride next week, the company must have spent a fortune on them I’d say at least £10 per gross.

Still at least they haven’t issued whistles this time, but then again it’s just under the counter if you feel like giving it a toot.Laugh

My first job was with this very firm.

I once attented a meeting in Telford. We drank a lot of tea. Eat a lot of biscuits and did bugger all else.

My local Corals is like a morgue. The last time I was in there ( Sat afternoon 1pm ) I was the only person in there!

i dont know how you afford to live in your town, called into Montpellier wine bar last Thursday asked for a pint of peroni, handed over a fiver and she said i want more (im used to this like but only from the other half)

went to the bistro coco, 2 starters 2 mains and a carafe of wine £80!

will be back in a couple of weeks which chinese is the best the mayflower or the ruby.

called into the new paddy power shop and got chatting with the manager she told me she'd been poached from corals along with some of the other staff, she said it was the best thing she had ever done, more money better conditions and she didnt have to scrub the bogs.

You went to the very expensive side of town Ronnie mate!

The mayflower is very, very good. Been a few times and never been dissapointed.

Yeah the manager of Ladbrokes was telling me about Paddy's poaching the Coral lass. He also told me that Paddy's were giving her a grand for every Coral's cashier that she bought with her.

I've been in there a couple of times and it's been very quiet.
