The Best Mate of the flat, except that Best Mate did at least run in the top race 3 times.
Report denman85 October 24, 2012 10:26 PM BST
yeh best mate won 3 awful golf cups aswell, wudnt of finished in top 5 if running against the likes of kauto , denman, long run etc

OK assuming it's not fishing then, everyone knew Frankel would be trying 10f for the first time in the Juddmonte on 22 August and not too many chose to take him on where he could have been vulnerable to going an extra 2f with the likes Born To Sea, Daddy Long Legs, Nathaniel and Snow Fairy choosing the Irish Champions Stakes instead.

Everyone also knew that Frankel would be running in the Champion Stakes at Ascot but how many of the 18 runners from the Arc chose to take him on?
Report buddeliea October 25, 2012 7:50 AM BST
Yep,his connections ducked a fair few challenges, thats for sure.

They have an unbeaten horse though, that some are going on about as the best ever!!, so job done as far as his future is concerned.
His campaigning said that was the goal all along.

The definition of dodging is to miss a race that a feared rival is due to contest. Which race do you think that Frankel's connections thought they might get beaten in and who by? They knew that the second best middle distance horse, Cirrus des Aigles was favoured by the conditions at Ascot but they ran and they won. I would have loved to have seen Snow Fairy in the race but she wasn't fit.

Talking of dodging, buddeliea you chose to make a post directly after mind but chose not to answer my question.
Report denman85 October 25, 2012 4:17 PM BST
ima- so why didnt frankel run any off the following races : derby, king george, arc, breeder mile, elclipse, etc, or is it beacause connection worried he might not stay thus costing them fortunes?
Report jollie October 25, 2012 4:30 PM BST
it aint a 1m 4f 'orse

end of story
Report denman85 October 25, 2012 4:34 PM BST
well it seemed to get 1m 2 ok in it last 2 runs
Report howard October 25, 2012 4:34 PM BST
Same reason as  Dayjur. Frankel is not a middle distance stayer. He would never have won a soft/heavy ground Arc imo. Best miler ever and the best miler ever can win G1's over 10f .
Report denman85 October 25, 2012 4:36 PM BST
breeder cup mile??Confused
Report buddeliea October 25, 2012 5:24 PM BST
Ima,to be honest i dont think its the horses so much, but more the races that they dodged,so i was referring to races he could have ran in to give him more challenges distance wise and prestige wise to enhance his reputation.

I firmly believe he could have ran in the Derby or at least the Eclipse as a 3yr old(time has proved he stayed ok).
Had he won the Derby or Eclipse(i believe he would have)he would then have had the KG,the Arc,and possibly BC to aim for.
We would then have probably seen him in the Eclipse again or King George, another Arc and possibly go to America again.
This horse won 2 races over a mile as a 2yr old and has proved he stays 10f well, and watching last Saturday leaves mre in not much doubt he would have got 12f.
Therefore i maintain he could have faced far more challenging situations,so conclude that his connections ducked certain challenges, and that imo was to make sure(as much as one can do in this game)that he remained unbeaten.
Report howard October 25, 2012 5:31 PM BST
bud he was a different horse mentally as a 4 year old. He would not have won the Derby in fact he could have finished last. Most connections try to win as many G1's as they can. They did a pretty good job.
Report Desert Pilot October 25, 2012 5:37 PM BST
Sea Bird dodged all the top mile races.
Report yorkie1 October 25, 2012 5:38 PM BST
jog on denman85 you clown.
Report buddeliea October 25, 2012 5:42 PM BST
Well we will never know now will we.

No one is saying they did not do a good job as far as winning G1's,they obviously did.And he goes off to stud an unbeaten horse.

Imo they had better, more prestigious G1's they could have won though.

I will never sway from that opinion.

Correct ..... but only by numpties who wouldn't know the difference between Longchamp and Lingfield !
Report ima_mazed66 October 25, 2012 10:47 PM BST
LOL...10 Gr1s and 9 in a row from 14 runs doesn't suggest there was much need for cotton wool.

Surely by now the Aussies must be over the disappointment of their so called superstar coming over and barely falling over the line? How many Gr1s did Black Caviar win from her 22 starts? 12 wasn't it including oddly a Gr1 handicap and she had a couple of handicap wins to her name in total and 6 or so Gr1s in a row was the best she could managed before having to drop down a level......the thought of Frankel in a handicap is quite funny though.

Frankel ran in 71% of Gr1s during his career, Black Caviar ran in 54% of Gr1s during hers. Oh but I forgot, purely because she in her last race to date went overseas and fell over the line in a proper Gr1 race makes her all conquering eh?
Report bf_fananatic October 26, 2012 12:21 AM BST
What ever Frankel would of been entered it , he would of won and perhaps more accolade should be paced on the brilliant milers instead of all the old school sticking to 12 furlongs as a yardstick, in eclipses day it was races at 3 miles so its shows that things do change over time.
Report bbsband October 26, 2012 11:25 AM BST
Stick Frankel in the Breeders Cup Mile or 1.2 Mile imo
Its no like the owner needs the money !
