if you have been getting racing at sandown for £9.23 a day in members which include the whitbread, brigadier gerard night, the eclispe plus recipricols then i would keep it to yourself as others may well feel hard done by.

It's only £9.23 if you attend EVERY fixture. Apart from the ones you mention, the fixture list mainly comprises of midweek meetings with class 5 handicappers which normally attract a very small crowd. They are lucky to have me there spending £££ on food and drink on such evenings that I can make it. I only go there as something nice to do after work and it's already paid for but wouldn't buy individual tickets for those (and neither do hardly anyone else).
If it was 26 grade one and/or weekend meetings then maybe you would have a point.
And as for the recipricals - who the hell really uses them? I've been to one in the last 3 years. So what if I can get in free to Down Royal and a Wednesday afternoon in February?
I really don't see how they can justify doubling the price for the same product and they'll lose a lot of members this way.
As usual - alientate real racing fans and chase the 'music evening' and 'stag/hen do' money.
Fuming.

Where'd you see this?No mention of it on their revamped site.If anything I'd say it's a typo.,with the cost being £270.The cost of NH only membership went up from £135 to £140 this upcoming season. To me this is the best value available in the south.11 fixtures at Sandown,Tingle Creek,Whitbread et al.Lots of people go to the reciprocals. This season I intend to go to 6:NH fixtures at Kempton,Folkestone,Plumpton,Newbury and Fontwell plus a day at Epsom,so that works out at £8.24 per day.Even if you can only go on Saturdays it's still decent value, and it's a lot easier to get a drink in the Members' bar.

The reason it is more expensive is they have/are going to change the length of the membership - in this case annual membership at £470 runs from April 2013 - march 2014 .
Jump membership nov 2012- April 2013 £140 Flat membership April - September 2013 £300
Therefore they have allowed a further increase in price for next season - also I think that it was more than £240 for last years annual membership as suggested by the opening post !
Fwiw I use to be an annual member and because of the horrible music nights they lost a racing enthusiast !
I will let you work out if it is good value or not !

Pinjob,They changed the starting date for the combined flat and NH membership several years ago.Previously, this started in January for the calendar year. When it changed such members had to buy a NH extension which ran from the January meeting through to the Imperial Cup in March, with the flat only and combined membership starting with the Friday of the Whitbread meeting in April. The combined now runs through to the Imperial Cup day the following March. This revision makes sense as both flat only and combined are issued at the same time.
The figure of £300 which you quote for flat only will actually be for the combined running from April 2012-March 2013,though from memory I'd say the actual figure was in the £270 region,as a friend who is NH only considered this last April, and we discussed the value of this at the time. The current cost of flat only will be the region of £180.

The figures and dates I have quoted are from sandown themselves in a brochure they sent me - both the jumps and flat memberships get you into the whitbread Saturday as it is a mixed meeting but that is the only jumps fixtures that you get with the flat membership - it definitely ends in September .
There are 27 fixtures 16 flat 11 jumps.

Pinjob,OK,I believe you,but I'm still saying that someone has screwed up with the brochure as that fee should take you through to the following March. As part of my job I used to do a fair bit of proof reading so this type of mistake wouldn't come as a surprise.
At the opening NH fixture at Sandown(10th Nov.)I'll ask some of the combined flat&NH members what they paid for their badge last April.I'm sticking with circa £270.

Heard from Sandown and apparently it was a typo in the brochure/magazine. A typo that was repeated and further figures were wrong too (apparently the broken down jump season and flat season figures were wrong too). So I take it all back Sandown Park!
I have been a member for a few years and paid approx £240 last time, perhaps £250 but not more than that. I think it is 5% cheaper if you do it online which I did.
Correct figures are £265 for annual membership from April 2013-March 2014. Flat is £185 next year, not £300! I shall be renewing when the time comes.
I totally agree that this is great value. But why shouldn't something be great value? £470 certainly would not be and would have priced a lot of genuine racing fans out.
