Feel free to stop riding, however if you get caught out, in a listed race, don't gripe when you are jocked off and suspended

Fed up saying it, banning them only when it costs them a place is akin to making drunk driving an offence only if it results in an accident. Banning them for easing down regardless is the only thing that will; stop it.

William Carson has been given a ten-day ban for dropping his hands on Lucky Beggar in York’s Rockingham Stakes. He is banned Oct 27, Oct 29-31, Nov 1-2 and Nov 5-7.

The Stewards held an enquiry to consider why William Carson, the rider of LUCKY BEGGAR(IRE), placed third, had appeared to stop riding inside the final furlong. Having heard his evidence and viewed recordings of the race they found him in breach of Rule (B)59.3.2.1 and guilty of failing to ride out on a horse that would have finished second. They suspended him for 10 days as follows: Saturday 27, Monday 29, Tuesday 30, Wednesday 31 October, Thursday 1, Friday 2, Saturday 3, Monday 5, Tuesday 6 and Wednesday 7 November.

They should ban the horse too. 40 days and a 7lb automatic penalty.
I suspect that would have an effect. And if the training fraternity whinge, like the spoiled little ponces the majority are, they should remind them they are responsible for booking a jockey that can ride an animal to the best of its ability. |

Didn't have a bet on the race thankfully but that was one of the worst cases I've ever seen. Normally when they stop riding they're miles clear & although it's still unforgiveable you can often see how they thought they were home. In this case it was nothing like that, it looked like Carson couldn't care less about getting second place (actually it looked like he actively didn't want to finish second but let's give him the benefit of the doubt & assume he's a moron not a cheat.
