halycon, I cannot speak for the others but how G.W.Richards is on your
list of shrewdies is beyond me. He was a superb trainer but not a great judge by any means about his horses chances of winning, one way or another I associated with Gordon for a good many years and from time to time I would back a horse he trained on his behalf, he never was a big player and rarely had a draw.
