I've just been reading that Ascot is making another 1500 tickets available for Champions Day featuring Frankel's swan song appearance on a racecourse by utilising a temporary facility and thus expanding attendance to 32,000.

Now this puzzles me because I've been to the Royal Meeting in recent years when attendance was reported at over 70,000. I know a chunk of that amount would have been in the infield which they only use for the showpiece June fixture but surely Ascot is able to accommodate more than 32,000 for such a memorable event.

Does anyone know other reasons why they can allow 70,000+ in for any given day at the Royal Meeting but only a lousy 32,000 for Champions Day?

Parking? Transport? Policing and stewarding? food and toilet facilities?

You can't just rustle these things up in a few days. Royal Ascot will be enormous every year, Champions Day not.

Cheltenham gets 70.

32,000 seems a joke.

I went last year when it was even less of a crowd and both husband and self have vowed we will never go back to Ascot again. The whole customer experience was poor but then that's not been the first time. If Royal Ascot attracts double the crowd then I dread to think what that is like. I'm afraid the Frankel factor is not enough this year.
