Anyone picking up today’s copy of the Racing Post wont failed to have noticed the big splash made on their front page after Tom Segal bagged a couple of winners yesterday for their Pricewise column.
Tom highlighted both Marcret and Absinthe who won at 13/2 and 10/3 SP, whilst he also picked out Jack Dexter for their subscription based Pricewise Extra service at 9/2 SP. (As a side-note, it’s worth noting that the 11/2 claimed by the RP on Absinthe would have likely been reduced by non-runners and Rule 4 deductions) Naturally Tom should be pleased with himself for doing so well yesterday, but the bigger question is…just how well do his results stack up over time? Well I want to tackle that today as since October 2009 we have been tracking every single one of the tips supplied by the Racing Post’s Pricewise Extra service in order to report back to our members. The Pricewise Extra service allows access to the paid for tips service from the Racing Post that costs followers between £1.90 a day and £4.50 per week if paying annually to follow. Posted up at midday, it features tips from the likes of Tom Segal, Andrew Barr and others such as Eddie Fremantle & Paul Kealy on a daily basis. Tom Segal Previously Bang Out Of Form What the Racing Post fail to tell you is just how poor Tom’s tips through the Pricewise Extra service have been for a long time, prior to the winner yesterday. Taking his figures at advised odds (more about how tricky these are to obtain shortly) since the start of 2011, our records show his stats as follows: 129 bets, 131 pts staked loss to advised odds of -51 pts and a Return on Investment of -38.93% This also includes a recent run of 33 bets which failed to yield one first placed finish, with just a placed each way effort at 12/1 stopping the losing rot. Prior to 2011 though, Tom was red-hot with a profit of 132.2 pts from 175 bets and a 75.11% ROI. Indeed if combining his record both pre and post 2011, our record shows that he comes out with a 26.45% Return on Investment from 303 bets so overall he is profitable. You just need to be very patient if following him in…and that’s before we discuss how tough it is to get the odds he puts forward. |

that is a myth mate YOU CAN get on and i do get on
Unfortunately you're liable for R4 deductions, which the Post conveniently forget to report when advertising his winners. |

Untrue - read today`s paper and stop crying.

When you back a winner of a race and you've done the study yourself you get a great deal of pleasure in knowing that the work / time you've put in has paid off, to me thats more important than the financial return. I can't understand why people invest their money on the say so of a tipster, newspaper or other, what pleasure do they get out of that ?.
Forgetting the politics of Pricewise I'm pleased for Tom Segal and his followers that he had a good day yesterday after a poor run during the flat race season. Unfortunately there will have been many of his followers deserted him during the bad run and they would be cursing themselves yesterday. One of the posts above state that he is in profit over a number of years, I would say there would be very few who have backed all his selections during that period. |

Well said holly

yep i would concur with that, its a bit like doing a crossword or a huge jigsaw...much smugness and self satisfsctioned, its good to know u are good at stuff

No Martyn, it isn't untrue. Now please don't slip back into your old ways, I don't want you to have the whole forum showing you up again. |

Nice post CRACKERPANTS...this is a real hot topic
How do you get to "trade out your losers??" tell us on here or drop me a PM, Cheers, Steve |
|
By:
the laughable part of todays posts headlines are the ones quoting the likes of paddys, hills etc of people having yankees etc on toms tips and adding in jack dexter which pricewise never tipped, cant see in my post where tom advised any combination bets,
also you must factor in alot of those following tom every week will be backing them ew although this is never advised by tom ,thus diluting the winning numbers even more |
|
By:
To be fair ....the forum's very own big field handicap expert put this up on twitter on Thursday...
Mr moloko @whataguesser I don't understand why Captian Ramius is 33/1 for the #Ayrgoldcup. A 7f horse could be ideal on Saturday. Two solid runs of late. 1 point ew 12:22pm - 20 Sep 12 |

By:
At least you can get on mr m's picks unlike segal imvho
|
|
By:
as posted elsewhere there must be something unethical about the segal, badbrookes, racing post axis, why would the post marketed as the punters friend take pleasure in been part an early warning system for the high streets biggest bookmaker, even i noticed the odds difference between laddies and the rest on toms picks yesterday
|
|
By:
the whole of fecking british racing is unethical with so many parasites feeding off the books...
|
|
By:
Is it reasonable to assume that all those aftertimers who did the multiples yesterday, do so every week, and if so, have they been losing plenty when we don't hear from them for months?
|
|
By:
segal aside putting in a shout for my mate who had a patent on the topweights in yesterdatys nuseries across the country,

fair play to Tom: like Hugh Taylor he knows there can be long losing runs but a confident 33-1 selection makes up for that; not his fault that the ipad prices make it hard/impossible to get a tenner on in the morning. Pissed off though that my bet KINSGATE NATIVE got chinned by another of his tips

Gonzo cannot read it seems.

He got very lucky with the sprint winner at Newbury - I was on KN & he was clearly the best horse. I'd happily take on Segal over a year of trying to flag up winners on Saturday cards, & would make myself a 1-3 shot to beat him if I was asked to price up the h2h.
