Worst saturdays racing for months, bookies benefits and a lot of punters not going for a pint tonight.

I or 2 bets for me and 6-7 pints later.

Are you sure? On The Morning Line they said there's "nothing punters love more than getting their teeth into these big field handicaps" Laugh

You could have put this comment up for the entire Flat season. Even the condition races have the shape of handicaps.
Report pauli September 22, 2012 12:07 PM BST
I never watch the Morning Line Dr Gonzo and comments like that are the reason why.  They haven't got the slightest clue what serious punters want and sadly they don't care.

HELLO
Report differentdrum September 22, 2012 12:50 PM BST
That wasn't one of Tanya's comments by any chance? No doubt she will spend most her time encouraging punters to lose their money this afternoon, no doubt bigging up Pricewise along the way.
Report millhouse September 22, 2012 12:53 PM BST
Anyone would think the more money the bookmaking industry remove from punters the more money made by those controlling the race planning.

Oh, hold on a minute...

F*ck me, now we've got this clown on ATR encouraging people to do a few tricasts. Even the Hills PR bird seems embarrassed Laugh

Newbury 3 handicaps, 2 maidens, 2 Group 3 a Group 2. Good mixture surely?
Report wizardofoz September 22, 2012 1:05 PM BST
An excess of handicaps is wrecking interest in British racing.

I have no problems with the races at newbury or newmarket but the three lottery races at ayr on bottomless ground are impossible  but good luck to anyone who likes big sprint races.
Report differentdrum September 22, 2012 1:19 PM BST
Sageform, I believe you have found the equivalent of a needle in a haystack. Check out previous Saturday cards when you will regularly find 7/8 handicaps and several split divisions of handicaps.
Report xmoneyx September 22, 2012 1:53 PM BST
Fav 5/1 ayr
Report Barton Bank September 22, 2012 1:55 PM BST
Huge field handicaps the order of the day most Saturdays as it is the only day most horses in that grade can actually run for decent money most of the time due to Racing for Change deciding to cram 90% of the reasonable racing into a 4-hour slot on a Saturday afternoon.
Report millhouse September 22, 2012 2:05 PM BST
Wizardofoz has it right - the BHA/bookmaker axis have decided that bookmaker profits will be increased if far more of the races featured on terrestrial TV are multi runner handicaps - and the harder they are to solve the more punters lose and the more into 'the levy'.

But I would bet that virtually everyone posting today got interested in racing by backing a winner. If this is deliberately being made more and more difficult when the sport is showcased on televison, the BHA should hardly be surprised if not that many people are getting into racing any more...
Report Barton Bank September 22, 2012 2:10 PM BST
They won't have thought of that, Millhouse.
Report Captain Christy September 22, 2012 2:19 PM BST
Anyone would think they have just dreamt up these end of season handicaps at Ayr?!
Report Barton Bank September 22, 2012 2:22 PM BST
To be fair, I like these Ayr races, CC. I don't think they should all be run on the same day though. Bronze on Thursday, Silver Friday and Gold Saturday worked perfectly well. Obviously this year the Bronze Cup would have had to be run on the Friday but they didn't know that so it isn't the point.

Thought you had brought this one back - Rico-  because today seems to be .... 2-yr-old race, after 2-yr-old race.
