1 they are priced up in the market 2 the rules state every horse has to run to its best and try to win when these horses aint never gonna win if they wanted to
Absolutely. The irony is there is an addenda to the rules that states that pacemakers are permitted, providing the jockey complies with the rules regarding riding for the best possible placing! Talk about double-speak! How can he be riding to the best possible placing if he's there to act as a pacemaker? Only in British racing could such a ridiculous situation be written into the rules.

And another thing.. All the time we hear justification for pace-makers as 'Everyone wants to see an honest pace' If I've bet the only horse in the race that has speed,I want the first part of the race to be run at a crawl!

Without pacemakers & no-hopers, some of the group races would be match's or walk-overs.
Nothing wrong with putting them in, alot worse going on in racing than a declared pacemaker!... they just need to be coupled in the betting.

One of the great races of all time Grundy V Bustino was set up by Herns 2 pacemakers Highest & Kinglet (neither ran for best possible placing) but set the framework for a cracking race.
