aiden had promised YOUNG joe they would call at mcdonalds on the way home to buy him a happy meal if camelot won today. You know how much kids love mcdonalds maybe the pressure got to him.

A totally inept ride by a jockey who simply does not have the natural ability required to do his job to any degree of satisfaction. A classic case of nepotism gone t1ts up

The horse was good enough today, just not good enough to give the start that he gave the winner and seeing as he was closing all the way to the line, then you would have to think if both jockeys started the run for home in line then Camelot would have won. There will be those blaming the jockey for that with his inexperience and lack of ability (and they would be wrong to) and others just seeing it as bad luck in running, which it was. Has no experienced jockey never found themselves in similar situations? Would it be due to inexperience had a similar thing happened to Kinane, Fallon or Murtagh? Any time a jockey 40+ gets beaten it's always put down to age and any time a jockey under 20 gets beaten it's always put down to age too but for the opposite reason. |

i think they expected the horse to quicken when he didnt aiden obriens comments state this. He only just got beat joeseph would have expected the horse to qiucken up. Had he have made more use of the horse who knows he may have faded this is the unknown

no matter the horse is not as good as thought otherwise he would have won despite a poor ride. Frankel has won at least one race when quealy give him a bad ride.

Matt Chapman got it right on ATR - young Joseph went from cruising to whipping in a few strides -sure sign of misjudgement.

Exactly FD , the horse isnt what they said it was , i thought it could win today but it was no certainty
Not as good as the hype , its a shame for racing but ballydoyle got it very wrong , underestimated a classic that they thought was a shoe in They knew exactly how good camelot is but tried to pull the "best ever " wool over our eyes and thought lets take the ledger and retire , |

fat dodgy remember he only just won the 2000 guin o.k exceptional performance in the derby but hes looked beatable the likes of frankel looks unbeatable however poorly hes ridden |

the derby is not good form ever does nobody remember workforce....harbinger, i dont know why i bother cos people who swallow this tosh make my prices but i feel its only right to try, a few on here helped me once

If they ran the race again, Camelot would start a warm favourite again and in all probability win (although Enke's turn of foot was impressive). So I guess we can say that although Camelot is a good classic winner and Joseph O'Brien a decent jockey they fall short of being a Nijinsky and Lester Piggot respectively.

I would say the LACK of pressure did for him.
He rode the race the way he always does, like he thinks he has a stone in hand of the field. When he has, he looks a cool dude, when it does not he looks like a silver spoon in the gob merchant whose judgement of race tactics is poor. You decide which description is closer to the truth. |

I believe this was a freakish occurrence that sometimes happen in sport. As I see it, this was caused by a combination of three factors. The winner ran well above his form. Camelot ran 25 per cent below his form. Joseph rode an average race. Listen, this was a big, big setback, but the boy has a steely determination, and will recover to be a top jockey.
