He sometimes talks rubbish.If Encke had stopped and Camelot won he wouldn't have said a word. Camelot was closing quickly on the winner late on, there was nothing wrong with him.

i think the point of this thread is evading you.

francome is saying the horse looked like it had a problem all the race, i didn't se any evidence of that whatsoever.

Finally it might be worth noting  Channel 4′s television coverage of the stewards enquiry. John Francome got it spectacularly wrong with his repeated assertions that there was no way the result would be changed. Then during an interview with Jaqueline Quest’s owner Noel Martin, the presenter (Mike Cattermole, I think) was told that the horse was called after Mr Martin’s wife. The presenter then asked if his wife was at the races and he was told that “she died some years ago and is buried in my back garden”. An emotional owner then outlined some details of his extraordinary and often tragic recent past and mentioned how his life had been worsened by Channel 4 who made what he felt to be an unfair documentary about him.  When the revised result was announced the camera zoomed in on a distraught Mr Martin. This was car-crash television from Channel 4.

As someone who has only recently started watching horse racing on TV. It took me 2 races to realise not to pay any attention to what this guy had to say. Seems completely clueless.

We ALL know on here that Francome talks through his sac, but what irks me is how readily the rest of the crew on the CH4 team are eager to regularly praise him for winners he HAS NOT tipped up, or after-timing classics like today!

I bet he says such balls I/R in EVERY race he's watching with Jim McGrath, who seems HOISTED up his ringpiece!
Every now & again, these apparent 'certs' like Camelot will get beaten, and it's such DIRE after-timing that insults our intelligence

Everyone on this forum seems unanimous in their view of this HOAX often referred to as the 'greatest jockey' and whilst I don't think he was shít in the saddle, he's not in the same class as McCoy, Walsh or even Dunwoody.

As a jockey he was certainly up there with the greats, far superior to Dunwoody.In fact he was the best I've seen until McCoy appeared on the scen.

As a pundit he is in the Dave Yates/Zoe class.

I remember Francome riding and he really was a great jockey, right out of the top drawer. So i am amazed he mostly talks craap and seems clueless.  Just shows u, never take any notice of what so called experts in any field say.  In fact the more expert they are perceived to be the more u should ignore them.

He is prone to throwing in 33/1 or bigger priced horses as ones with 'a chance' in the vain hope that one day he'll be able to crow about it afterwards though I never remember one actually winning.

As for his jockeyship, he was more like a Paul Carberry looking brilliant by doing it effortlessly but you would prefer someone else if you wanted to rely on a winner.

That's not how I remember him. By the end of his career he was the strongest around in a finish.

I would agree with Flyingbolt,Francome was the Best Jockey i have seen until A.P appeared.

We might be slating him but if my memory serves me right he made one of the greatest gestures ever seen in racing when, after Peter Scudamore broke his leg he allowed Scu to tie the Jockeys championship with him. A great display of fair play, integrity and selflessness.
Johnny Francome is a racing legend in more ways than one.
