Hello all. I have been reading up a lot in the last week or 2 about Trading on Betfair. Basically at the moment i use Betfair purely like a bookie, back before the off and if it wins i win..... however i have become extremely intrigued about the trading on here and making money even before the race or match or whatever is off.
Now i know this isnt something anyone can just do, but basically does anyone have any tips or suggestions on where to start. Is there any courses or books available helping beginners with becoming a full time trader? Presumeably everyone had to learn at 1 point, and believe me im not deluded and i know it may not be easy etc...
I have tried to look on the internet and things, but all i come across are what i imagine are get rich quick scams etc....
I have heard a lot about API's but ill be honest i dont know much about these, is there a particular one which is the best for instance?
If anyone could give me any sensbile advise it would be greatly appreciated. I just really want to know how and where to start and learn......

Even be an absolute natural at it ....
But there is one MOUNTAIN for EVERYBODY to climb....
There is precious little LIQUIDITY in Horse Race Markets - until a few minutes before the OFF.
So you certainly won't make a living - "with becoming a full time trader"
- and - If you wait until those Final few minutes before a race -
Then you will 'get eaten alive' ... without knowledge of Racing itself, Trainer traits - certain Jockey 'TRAITS'... let alone Trading knowledge.
Sorry - But that Dream ended - and mostly in tears - for many, a fair few years ago - when Betfair sucked in Busloads of Wannabees.... who had read the 'Manuals' and watched the Videos.

Thanks Onlooker, however one thing i never said is that i dont have knowledge about horses. I do in fact have quite a lot. I was bought up with horse racing as my father owned a number of racehorses so i have been bought up in this industry really travelling around. I still enjoy the odd bet on them, but thats all it is - a bet.
And yeh, sorry Delta didnt even think of that! I am thinking of buying the following book to help me get started, but again any advice would be ideal.

Ratters, have you seen my post above, don't spend any money on books/videos/courses it's all out there for free.
Yeh reading it now Gandalph. This "Evolution" software - is this a good one? It states i can have a free trial and start there, so i guess this seems the right place to start?

Don't know anything about trading as I am an old school backer only, did you miss the link in my post to the youtube video, when you get to the youtube page it gives a series of trading tutorial videos.
I dont think it would be dangerous as i would merely give it a go first to see how i get on... Its not the fatc that i dont know the basics. I understand quite a lot of them, the main thing i had NO idea there were all these trading programs you could use.... i guess this is what im after help or advice with which ones to use etc and how hard they are! 
Ive seen it Gandalph, however i will have to wait to get home to watch the Youtube clips as im in the Office at the moment. Thanks though

And Zealot, thats interesting, i obviously wouldnt go crazy on this, but what do traders try and win? I presume its a % figure, if so (and apologies if this is naive of me) but is say 10% profit what people aim for over a set period of time?

Ratters, you sound like a lamb to the slaughter. To make money on the GGs, you need a clear strategy, but more than that you need information. Do you know any owners, jocks or trainers? I would say a huge percentage of cash traded on bf is by those in the know. Give up now and get a proper job, and leave the rest of us dreamers to it.

Wow how helpful, thanks Blades. And FYI i have a proper and a good job, i am here now. I simply want to do this as a hobby, read my posts, i dont want it to be a full time living, and yes i do know a few trainers through my dad (again read the thread)
Anyway, i think you are missing the point. What i want to be able to do and learn about, and it doesnt have to be on horses, can be on football or anything, is where you can put yourself in a position where it really isnt actually gambling, and before the off of the event your book can already be "green"
