Bit of a random topic but thought i'd ask the opinion of you knowledgeable lot !!
After approx 8 pints of lager and celebrating my £10 win on the Martin Skrtel first goal @ 40 me and the lads opened the debate on who would get the Fankel ride in 'The Arc' if TQ was banned / injured !!!
I'm convinced the mercurial Ian Mongan would get the leg up but the lads laughed at me and threw peanuts at me for the rest of the night.
As long as he or she was human then I think it would be alright but Mongan is a trusted member of the team and I think your right. Great Jockey who could have done better but perhaps not much ambition and happy with his lot.

The problem with using Mongan is that IF he lost he would only ever be remembered as the man who got Frankel beaten. He would never live it down and would probably drink himself to death in a grotty bedsit. Fairer really to use the likes of Dettori,Moore or Hughes or maybe Peslier or Velasquez.

I think I would still use Dettori in a major Grp 1. And Frankel in The Arc would probably be the biggest ride of any jockey's career. I wouldn't put him up in a seller at Yarmuth though. I WOULD prefer Mongan.

Abdulla would insist on putting Richard Hughes up,
after all, he owes Hughesy as when he was retained, there was a drought of classic and group 1 winners for about 6 years

Salmon, Know where you are coming from but being a big fan I now cannot see his plan in a race.
Last week in a group race he was 12 lengths off the lead in a dawdle and I get the impression with him that he now wants to ride as if he thinks because he is on it it will run alright.
Its a bit like Spencer, if I saw all jockeys riding the same way then I could understand it but I don't and Frankie is either too far off the pace these days or in front and beaten before the 2 furlong marker. It was never like that in days gone by.

Shouldn't really make a difference at he'd still win anyway.
Ian Mongan showed himself more than capable when winning the Juddmeonte last year and has been riding long enough to know what to do.
I remember in '95 when any article about Celtic Swing had to mention the fact Kevin Darley had never ridden in a classic before then, despite the fact he had been a jockey since the 1970s.

Once he's finished his massive litigation case against the BHA.
Those air whips would at least guarantee Frankel wouldn't be harmed.
