Totally agree with the comments about alcohol here and thought it was ridiculous when they started allowing people to drink in the stands and the betting ring. Will these yobs please stay away from our sport.

Over the years violence among rival Welsh coach parties at Newbury Races has become something of a habitual problem, most scraps have usually occurred in the coach parking area however,I recall an incident in the early 90's when a fight broke out in Tatts bar with bottle being thrown through an elevated a television screen.
The only other racecourses I have personally witnessed fighting are Ascot and Newmarket.
Report geoff m July 16, 2012 7:46 AM BST

Worst violence I have seen at a raceourse in over 25 years working for the caterers in the south. It's always been Welsh travelling up the M4 to Newbury that's been the problem. One group were ejected for being D&D before all hell broke lose. Most were drunk (and/or on drugs) before they got there. Security were overwhelmed with the numbers involved, and never has it been more difficult to get a drink oncourse, as any under 25 will testify and a crackdown by local police for at least the last two years. Spoilt a lot of peoples days as we had to close the bars in the grandstand and involve the police and even the army.

Seen these sort of incidents at the Rowley Mile, Newmarket. It never happened 20 years ago. Racing has brought it on itself by heavily marketing it, and trying to get more and more people through the turnstile, and then plying them with drinks. At Newmarket, they had these people wondering round with kegs of beer for backpacks, and they basically were encouraging racegoers to buy a pint off them as soon as they entered the racecourse. It's appalling. We live in a drunk, anti-social, broken society. Blair's Britain.

Frankly security at all racecourses is all the old boys who are >80 and happy to work for fack all and hopefully a winning tip. Been going down hill for ages...too many coach trips and they are already more than half gone before they get in.

Too many horses and too many rubbish races. I can't see things staying as they are it's just not a viable business model and all the gamberholics are hooked on FOBT's and bingo.com or some other shyte.

R.I.P British Racing especially when Channel 4 are going to have all the racing and can't even be bothered to show a Group 3 live better to show another advert than show a horse race.

If some ignorant Welsh hooligans want to fight do it in Cardiff or Swansea not at an English racecourse. I once went to see Wales play at Anfield and the level of obscenity and racism was beyond anything I had before heard and I used to stand on the Stretford End at Old Trafford in the 1970s and 80s. I was a student in Cardiff and went to many rugby matches. Drink was taken to excess but the Welsh never fought between themselves or people from other countries. The 40 hooligans should be identified and banned for life from every racecourse and football ground in the country.

Clearly from the you tube footage
1) Dozens of innocents, including women hung around close to the fighting, enjoying it, egging it on, filming it.
2) All those in the stands were cheering, clearly not intimidated, enjoying the spectacle with 30 minutes to kill, errr every 30 minutes.
3) Only a tiny handful were fighting and only amongst themselves.
3) Those hurt in the fight werent looking to get away.

Obviously stewards and police should sort it out but good grief the nonsense spouted on here.

A tiny irrelevance, bit of fun for those watching and participating and they all have a quick story to tell in the pub, big deal.

Shocking really. Imagine if you went there with your family and that happens. I would go home straight away.
The stewards didnt really know what to do, but then you dont expect a riot at the races, and why should they put their necks on the line for £50 or less.
