i've sent them a couple e-mails this week, another problem i've discovered today is when you do a "specific" results search in the archive....it don't fecking work.
|
|
By:
Don't expect a reply, I've emailed them twice and the last couple of weeks and heard feck all.
|
|

when you look at a horse list of previous runs....it don't even specify whether the race was a chase, hurdle, maiden, handicap or any description other than the ground and distance......if beadle was still alive i'd swear he was behind it

Search facility used to be superb..... Now it's useless
|
|
By:
It is an absolute disaster.

If you search a horse and it says "no future entries" don't rely on it.
|
|
By:
May send the same to a few of the site's sponsors

What i don't understand is when the revamp has been completed , when they all sit down round a table, how do they go through it and then all say, yeh, that's alot better isn't it

We're looking at a site for work, about 3 grand for the basic. The contract says you have 4 days to pick any faults, wouldn't have taken 4 minutes

ITs was great for looking at horses at course going trip etc all gone now what a fooking joke

Good luck to OP as I have also sent a few emails, all of them constructive in criticism but blatantly obvious to them I assume.
In particular, for me, the live shows are now around 90 seconds behind for every race which indicates something rotten in the basic system they use even though previous to the update this lag was only around 15 seconds. I still await a reply or even an acknowledgement. |

All sites seem to have recently, where Sportinglife had an underlined line of text to click on, everything is in boxes to click now like mobile app sites.

Excellent point by Duffy and one that I have pondered. Someone must check these things and surely must have realised that there is a fundamental problem with the site since the change. In the areas of the site that I use this is blatantly obvious. They need to roll-back and test the new software again before reinstating it imo.

and here's another thing : click on 'cards' right now, at 17.18 and it's only listing races that happen up until 16.45
it doesn't update to let you navigate to the next race |

re:What i don't understand is when the revamp has been completed , when they all sit down round a table, how do they go through it and then all say, yeh, that's alot better isn't it
My take on things is that someone has told them it doens't look like most sites - which is correct, because it was MUCH BETTER than most sites. It hadn't been "over-designed", function was put before appearance.... then we have the Emperor's new clothes approach and management fall for the design bull$hit. Betfair are exactly the same - what on earth do curved corners on the squares used to hold odds bring to the user? Ditto graduated fills - do you think that as a bettor my "user experience" is enhanced by such unecessary trimmings!? Problem is once a few websites fall for it, the others rush to copy for fear of being seen as old-fashioned... SL jumped on the bandwagon. |

I can't even see the finishing position of any of the runs in any horse profile, they are all merged into one gret mess with the date string
![]() There is another bug too, when you click a runner to see its profile page the tool-tip comes up for the Sire/Dam owner info etc, then when you click back from the profile page to the race card the tool-tip appears again, this should have been removed when it has LostFocus. Shame as it isn't a bad re-design of the layout & colour scheme really imo. |

no more "news clippings" either from what i can see

let's keep this thread alive anyway, you never know, someone from thesporting life may stumble across it and have a connery

I hope so Duffy and YYWhatever sums things up nicely I think with his 'emperors new clothes', comment but what I dont understand is why a refresh to the look should cause so many other problems.
Please don't even get me started on BETFAIR where there must exist a Department of Tinkering such is the level of messing about that goes on with this site. Just imagine the levels of speed, stability and fluency that database/statistic dominated sites like SL, BF and RP to name just a few could operate to if they were kept simple. Its what computers excel at but site designers seem to do everything they can to cause problems with the major issue for me being advertising scripts to pay for all this complexity. I need a drink. |

It's not any consolation, but its not just the racing...the Rugby is a shambles too - scores are miles behind live, teams take ages to come in etc etc...
All the effort seems to have gone into integrating Skybet's prices and we all know what a waste of time they are! |
|
By:
was one of my fav sites for all sports.would even had been prepared to pay a small sum to use it
absolutely shambolic now, info missing and seems very slow.also easily confused with sky bet website |
|
By:
Why should anyone expect anything different from a Skybet run site...
CANNOT GET ON .... If only the Murdoch's knew what a bunch of amateurs run their websites...... |
|
By:
The mobile site is even worse

Don't use it much for horse racing but everyday for general betting mainly football switched on the day they changed it and was annoyed asthere was nothing wrong with how it was before. The bbc webite the same recently changed and can't find anything and with less info.
|
|
By:
Don't talk to me about the mobile site....
|
|
By:
Skybet was one of the worst sites I ever used, I once filled in one of their surveys and told them exactly what I thought.
In fairness they phoned me, let me rattle of for about ten minutes and gave me a free tenner bet for doing so ![]() |

Nice one 'creatureinthesky' and 'LB1982' hits the nail on the head when stating that there was nothing wrong before and that for me is the mystery of the whole thing.
If it had been a brand new service I would have just shrugged my shoulders and thought, ah well not for me, and moved on but it isn't and before it's recent change it worked just fine for me. Call me naive but who would have thought a service could be so negatively affected by a supposed upgrade and yes I too would pay a reasonable charge if that is what it took to get rid of all the guff and keep things simple and useful. |
|
By:
I'd pay to have the old Sportslive radio back, was genuinely upset when that finished.
If not a subscription, would happily sit through a few ads or do a few surveys. The follow through clicks to the sponsors must be dire. |
|
By:
I am no Luddite - things have to change and often once you get used to things they are indeed better when you look bacck.
But the revamped SL website is utter bobbins - used to be my homepage the results were so much quicker and more comprehensive than RP. Layout was fine , content was fine , branding was good. Has Sky bought it recently or did they always won it?? Its shocking now in many areas. |
|
By:
Agree with all the above, SL site is tosh. Have sent several emails - no reply!!!
|
|
By:
I don't know who owned it before, but I do know that it was the "Sporting Life" site in name only and had absolutely no connection to the old newspaper of the same name.
|
|
By:
just seen this thread and went onto website for first time....won't be back....horrible design...slow...clunky....looks like a half finished job by a 14yo web designer using a customised package.....horrible effort!!!
|
|
By:
Dear all moaners,
Dont use it then. HTH. |
|
By:
I suppose we all use it in different ways, so from my perspective it's not a disaster, more it is a bit clunky to how I found it before.
|
|
By:
argghh, click on a horse running over the jumps today and get a list of all its previous runs up and looking at that list and try and figure out what kind of races they were....you can't......the most basic of requirements at glance is to show what type of race it was....you've got to click into each previous run one by one....total mess.
