That is so funny, sums up bookmaking im afraid

Awful stuff.
how do they get away with their advertising bull? |
By:
fatal mistake of obviously arbing, attempting a high value wager in a quiet period (pre 10am), surprised you lasted 30 mins tbf

Can anyone help jc wont accept my bets but have not closed my account why same as spoil.
By:
they saw what you were trying to do and thought "feck that we're not having an arber on our books, screw you son"
clearly they saw you attempt to £500 on your first bet on a 12/1 shot and jumped to the conclusion |
By:
if they can't stand the liability at 12/1, they should put the horse in at a price they are willing to stand. Anything else is misrepresentation under normal "trading standards"
About time bookmakers were forced to lay a liability of say min £10k per horse..... otherwise have their licence removed. |
By:
I agree but think the 10k liability is too much - it would be a start if they were required by law to lay any price quoted to lose a grand. Is it really that much for any bookmaker to even worry about laying? It should be unlawful to quote a price and then not oblige that quote to a minimum amount. It absolutely amazes me that no high st bookie has taken the bull by the horns and advertised thus - any person, any bet, we will lay at least a grand.
By:
If they don't want to lay a horse at a price, they shouldn't offer it at that price. Look what happens when Hugh Taylor puts a selection up - within minutes without taking a penny, they cut the odds by 20%.

about time the BHA started their own betting exchange, solved the levy and prize money crisis and blew all High St bookmakers to oblivion

pedro, 1/2% PA on £500 about £2.50p Divided by 365 daily rate 0.7p, need alot of deposits to make that worthwhile
By:
ososhot, when will you all realise they dont give a feck whether they bet you, stop moaning, back em on here 20% better odds, no bets refused, no accounts closed, sharp minds
By:
barry.... why not work out the calculation on all deposits they take over the year.
And then add all the "notional" interest on customer balances that are retained by the bookie until the customer withdraws. The "interest receivable" in their annual accounts must make good reading In this age of modern technology, 6 working days to move money from their account to yours is laughable. When it takes just a millisecond to move in the opposite direction. |
By:
They knew you were arbing, especially for £500 so not surprised they restricted your account to £20 and then closed it. You got too greedy.

Exactly! No excuses for that. |
By:
I have to agree that the 3-6 days to refund is not on!
By:
at the very least, books should be forced to show the max bet they will accept at the price.
Think B365 do this Customer can then decide whether to keep his money (and wasting his time on that site in future) before needlessly making a transfer |

I had a similar email from VC this year after having an account with em for nearly 20 years
The words 'We are contacting you today to advise that a business decision has been taken by our Senior Traders' jogged my memory I had backed a horse which had shortened in price (it lost!) and they said they were prepared to stand that bet but no more............... Pathetic - especially when Victor himself turns up in all those adverts |
By:
Sadly since the arrival of the exchanges the high street bookies very rarely take any decent money unless your a "mug punter".
Doubt this will ever change, you have to be very careful how much you put on these days and spread it around as much as possible. |
By:
instead of those ridiculous "I'll take that bet" adverts, would be more reflective of the firm to make a "I won't take that bet" version....
By:
pedro, ask the racing channels if you can be PR for any of the plc's. I like that, "we will not be laying any bets over £5 on these horses"
great publicity. |
By:
"we will not be laying any bets over £5 on these horses"
It would be a lot quicker to list the horses on which they would take bets of more than a fiver |
By:
Barry, shouldn't you be drinking champagne in a William Hill hospitality box somewhere...?
By:
not out today too wet, sitting at home drinking a bottle of cristal courtesy of a betting partner.

Joke of a firm. Love that ad on the front of the RP yesterday - put a yankee on the racing and get a free in-running bet on the Open next week. Laughable.

Well i'd hate to disillusion anyone who doesn't already know. But High Street - online Bookmakers as we used to know, are a thing of the past, and never will return..
