These people are in the entertainment business - they can't ignore the people who give them their good living. Look at any other professional sportsperson and their commitment to the media. Racing and racing people need to realise this and lose the attitude and the snobbery.

Lester never said nowt.
By:
No they are not in the entertainment business. That is for the TV presenters. Jockeys are paid to be good at riding horses. If they want to turn themselves into a talking head like Frankie Dettori that is fine, but you can't expect them all to do that.
By:
they only had pathe news in those days
By:
You're thinking of Fred Archer gazo
By:
So, Alonso, Hamilton, Button etc have no commitments other than driving cars. Likewise Federer, Nadal, Djkovic. Moore, Stoute and their ilk need us as much, if not more so, than we need them.
By:
Most sportspeople aren't that bright. Why we should want to hear their opinions anyway is beyond me.

Lester had a genuine excuse he was very deaf as a child and therefore never learned the social skills of a normal child, that is why he was so introverted.
His deafness caused his speech impediment, he didn't hear pronunciation like a hearing person. |

I agree, but the boneheaded insistence on getting immediate feedback from a jockey whilst he's still on the horse and hasn't had a chance to speak to the owners/trainers really gets my goat. At least wait until the poor sods have recovered their breath and got off the horse. Ask more intelligent questions too. |

Jockeys are paid to be good at riding horses. Absolutely. As for TV presenters entertaining, does anyone know any that do entertain? They're all sychophantic, brown nosers, some, admittedly, worse than others, flogging "tips" and telling porkies, etc, but they are all worthless and pointless and, certainly won't ask a question that may rock the boat. It's all just an exercise in passing the time. The ads are awful, but no worse, (though as said, awful) than listening to the "experts" (experts on manure, btw) |

The sad thing is that the media and presumably a section of the public judge sportsmen and women more on their ability to perform in front of a camera and a microphone than on their sporting prowess. Very strange. I would rather watch a qualification heat or third division football match than an interview or talking heads but perhaps I am the odd one out. That is why I watch my favourite sport, athletics, on Eurosport to be spared the dreadful pre and post race interviews on the Beeb. The Eurosport commentators never appear on the screen which is as it should be and there is live action 95% of the time.

History Maker,
I agree with you're sentiments on post race interviews with the jockeys whilst they are returning to the winners enclosure. It's something which channel 4 started, some of these interviews have been cringeworthy. (Ruby and Thommo). If the jockeys have agreed to this I would be surprised, unless there is financial gain involved. |
By:
I thought the jockeys got paid for the interview on the horse. Something like £60 a time and it goes into a slush fund that gets divied out at the end of the season - but I might be wrong.
Anyway, whether they get paid or not, they have got to give a lot more and do a lot better to the public that are, in effect, paying their wages and keeping the whole show on the road. |
By:
agree the interviews are farcical! and as much as ryan moore is an ignorant bar steward , emma isnt very likable either imo. nor catt for that matter, cant stand the man!!
By:
Emma is a Ramsden never trust them and Moore is just a complete ****
By:
They should just ignore him and interview the horse,it costs eff all to be civil and mannerly.
