Have planned a bus of 30 of us to go up to Hamilton on Saturday night.  Just saw that the Friday has been cancelled and they are inspecting tomorrow at 3pm to see if Saturday is going ahead.

Anybody in the area know what nick the course is in?  Really hoping it is going to be on!  A

Would greatly appreciate anyone from near the area to give me a heads up!! Cheers in advance!

Hamilton's meeting on Saturday is now subject to a 7am inspection that day. Will just need to wait and see. Think I might give the Clerk a phone tomorrow though.  Cheers Geoff

I'm a couple of miles away and I would be surprised if it's off assuming the rain stays away - I'm actually surprised it's been called off tomorrow night - first time I've known a Fairs Friday meeting to be abandoned.
The ground at the side of my fathers house usually gets quite boggy when there's a lot of rain around here and it's not too bad - whether it's a case of water actually lying on the track I'm not sure.

The dip halfway up the straight - holding water, as you say, sam -  could well be the problem

The golf course which is next to it was never that good at taking the rain unlike Lanark onlooker.

Lee if you're looking for anywhere to go after racing there are numerous drinking establishments around the Hamilton - Motherwell - Wishaw area - I'll let you know the ones to avoidLaugh- which is in fact most of them.

LANARK was one of my favourite Racecourses, sam

Trainers and Jockeys used to say that the grass was like a Bowling Green.

Pity it closed - as the complete Course still there, including, I believe,  the Tote Indicator building - which, I seem to remember, may well have  been made  a Listed Building.

Yeah mate was there on numerous occasions as a kid - course was vitually pan flat and fair - I think the building you're talking about was the one on or is the one on the inside of the track where they displayed the racecard numbers, jockeys etc.

On the subject of trainers I remember my dad saying Ian Walker had a good record there? - wouldn't know if that's true or not.

Think it closed around 1977 - doesn't seem like 35 years ago.
There was talk of it being turned into an all weather track years ago too.
