i'd love to see him have a crack at it,while were on the subject of BB,Does anybody know if paul nicholls has a flat licence?
i know he was in the process of getting one last year with the intention of running pepe simo at Royal ascot, but not sure if it came to fruition?
always been amazed why he's not ran a lot more of his horses on the flat,Chester Cup,Cesarewitch etc

Former County Hurdle winner American Trilogy is set to become Paul Nicholls' first Royal Ascot runner.
The eight-year-old has not raced on the Flat since joining Nicholls ahead of the 2008-09 season but he won on the level when trained in France, landing a Listed event.
The champion jumps trainer has never had a runner at Royal Ascot but that will end on Saturday week when American Trilogy takes his chance in the Queen Alexandra Stakes.
"I think the plan is for him to run in the Queen Alexandra on the Saturday," Nicholls's assistant Dan Skelton told the Guardian.
"With Black Caviar running (in the Diamond Jubilee Stakes), it should be a good day. I'm not sure I'd be backing her at 1-3, though."

Oh So Risky won the Triumph Hurdle and was twice runner up in the Champion Hurdle and also won the Ascot Hurdle at the Ascot Gold Cup trip but when they had a go in the Ascot Gold Cup itself in 1994 ended up 6th of 9 and beaten 16L by Arcadian Heights.
Ironically when runner up the first time in the Champion Hurdle, Oh So Risky was beaten by Royal Gait, which was first passed the post in the 1988 Ascot Gold Cup before being disqualified.

Kasbah Bliss is or never was in the same parish as Big Buck and he managed a Group 1 win on the flat,
Big Bucks would go very close in the Ascot GC imo

don't think you can use kasbah bliss as a yardstick.
he was a top stayer on the flat and over jumps but some horses prefer one or the other.
we have had 3 times champion hurdle winners who were tailed off every time they tried the flat and we have had ordinary flat horses who excelled when put over hurdles.
big bucks has already proved he doesn't have the speed for shorter races so possibly flat speed might catch him out as well.

He'd be tailed off in my oppinion but it is just that, completely different disciplines, nippier flat breds would string him out before the stamina kicks in. The likes of Yeates and F&G were formerly Group 1 mile and a half horses and Derby favs, that is what he would be up against. Right of passage was always a better flat horse than hurdler as well before that is pointed out, I think his November Handicap win marked him out as a future group stayer. It's a different thing all together carrying 9st in Gr 1's and 11'10lbs in Grade 1 hurdles. Just two different games, but it is much easier for the flat horses to transfer because in all honesty they are more talented.
I thought american Trilogy would end up a Champion Hurdle horse when he won the county
yes, would win quite easy...he's got a winning mentality which counts under any code
Nicholls flat licence is quite recent which is why it hasn't been used much so far. His book hints it's so his daughter will be able to ride for him when she's old enough.

He might be a touch old now - it's hard to tell if he's still as quick and as good as he used to be becuase nothing gets near him. Apparently he has no trouble going with the speed horses at home and we saw in the World Hurdle this year he has as much pace as Champion Hurdle contenders like Oscar Whisky and Thousand Stars. He'd also be let loose carrying 9-2.
Rite of Passage won the AGC a couple of years ago having finished third(?) in the Neptune that year.
I'd love to have seen BB take on this race but doubt it will ever happen now.

Interesting thought but perhaps he is where he is because they know something we dont.
I love Big Buck's and he's made me a small fortune in time. However, you could see from the positive ride he was given by Ruby at this years World Hurdle (which in fairness was his toughest race yet) that
he's not as pacy as he once was and really needed a strong, hard pace to swat off pacier animals like Oscar Whisky. That was the reason he took it up with 3 furlongs to go - he couldn't afford for it to turn into a sprint. It was one of Ruby's greatest rides IMO. However, BB would have to work very hard to beat a horse like Fame and Glory who would've been a Derby winner in any ordinary year. I think he would be a staying on 4th or 5th if he entered the Gold Cup this year and would be badly outpaced early on.
Dont think BBs would be in the 1st 3 in the Ascot GCup imo.
Think they put that Q to Ruby about that race before, sure he said that he would prob get well stuffed, not a flat horse & if they thought that he was quick enough, he would have had a crack by now. Place-lay if he ran.
