Last Hunter Chase of the year & not a very good one at that, as the race has cut up badly. I can see this resting between two, CALL ME MULLIGAN & ALVARADO ….
CALL ME MULLIGAN has got its act together lately, winning its last 2 P2Ps Last time, it was 1/10 in a 2 runner race & won as it liked, made all (3m firm)… YES I CAN ( won at Cartmel on Monday)..won a 2 horse race on the same card. John Dawson rode both.
But it was the race before that really takes the eye. CMM stayed on dourly in a mens open race over 3m on ground which was on the soft side, leading all the way & fought off the challenge of MONOGRAM…a horse that had won its previous two Points… 3rd in that race was OEDIPE (odds on fav)…. OEDIPE…went on to beat YES I CAN in its next race…….YES I CAN then won its next P2P & went on to win a decent Hunter Cartmel on Monday (J Dawson)….. the form has been franked & is really strong as it stands.
ALVERADO.. the best horse in the race, was beaten by Ringa Bay in a bog last time, looked the winner over the last, but was readily outstayed…..only 2 finished…refused at newbury the time before on its Hunter chase debut…..wouldnt have though there would be a lot between Ringa Bay & CALL ME MULLIGAN…as the form stands
The thing with ALVERADO is its jumping & it is best going right handed…..it regularly jumps right handed when going left handed & its jumping leaves a lot to be desired, usually makes a few bad mistakes in its races. Cartmel, is a tight left handed track & the fences down the back come quickly after each other. It remains to be seen wether ALVARADO will be able to cope with the track & fences.
If CALL ME MULLIGAN goes from the front as it has in its points (John Dawson rides again here) it could be tough to pass around here especially getting 9LB …..John Wade on fire at the moment & John Dawson riding with loads of confidence.. & although ALVERADO is rated the best horse here & might win easily I am prepared to take it on with all its doubts…
koikeeper I have been following AP over a cliff in the last two days and despeartely need a winner you seem quite shrewd and and make a good case how confident of this one are you on a scale of one to ten ?

Wolf...how confident can you be..i would say if Alvarado handles the track & gets around it will be difficult to beat...but its an IF..so am happy to take it on, win or lose... I cant/wont tell you to back it, & would never do that with any selections.. its only my thoughts...unfortunately there are no certainties.

Thunder, .I always take the 1st show with BOG..so makes no difference to me GENERAL HARDI goes for wade in the race before this..if it wins/goes close, the price might contract on CMM Wades LETTERPRESS won around here on saturday, & goes again in the 5,25...his stable is red hot at the moment

really like your analyis of HCS most consistant and helpful what the BF forum should be, having read what youve said regarding doubts the one i like is plodder ORANGER EW its run over too short a distance at stratford wasnt bad and its run against top 4miler at sedgefield gives it a squeak imo would appreciate any thoughts

Oranger has been tried over every distance & agree it would have every chance on that run against Special Portrait, the ground was soft that day & Sedgefield is a law unto its self, so maybe the track suited it...Cartmel might just be a bit quick for it imo

Thunder Wadey does NOT back his horses(no need to).Don't forget the same outfit also won yesterdays Hunter. It went off at something like 5/1 when it was the obvious form horse. If it had been in a gambling stable it would have gone off much shorter. As Koi says, the stable is on fire at the moment. If it comes in will be public money NOT John Wades irrespective of what happens in the preceeding race.

As i said, I would not tell anyone to lump on any of my selections...these are just my thoughts as to what I think...would hate to think that I told people to "lump on" & it got beat....but would never do that anyway....up to the individual wether they back them or not.

enjoyed reading your reviews and another interesting one here,
completely agree with your comments about ALVARADO, he is not a fluent jumper and wouldn't be a 10-out-of-10 betting opportunity for an odds-on fav.
However, he does have a 50% strike rate with 6 wins from 12 races, and 100% in novice chases with 3 out of 3. 0 from 2 in Hunter Chases but I'd be surprised if he can't beat this lot. CALL ME MULLIGAN looks the only one who could possibly beat him, and you have done well with your selections. Good Luck.

Very well done koi. A great way to end the season on a good priced winner (two actually). It hasn't escaped my attention that there has been a distinct lack of critics recently - I wonder why? Enjoy your break koi, good luck and thanks again.

In that case koi I look forward to reading your posts throughout the summer. I must admit I couldn't believe it when the fav went at the first in that race.

Aye Buz...jessie said it needed the run & they knew it was under cooked by about 12LB on that run ...would have hacked up if fit... Definitely a serious horse for next year.
