Is it just me or did Robbie McNamara go to lose the last race in Ballinrobe on Native Son tonight. What a shocking shocking ride. If he is not investigated after this I will give up on horse racing. I have no faith in Irish racing!!!!

sure it cud happn to anyone...cruising up...lokking between your legs....acting flash....horse finds nothin....there not machines u know...trained by weld....

He didnt ride the horse thats what! He was cruising all race but didnt push the horse. He was even looking back 1 - 2 furlongs out. Fix if I ever seen one!

Tillymay you talk rubbish. I was a two mile flat race on good to firm ground, why could he not finish. No you are right they are not machines but race horses breed to run!

Don't know how long you have been following racing - I see you just joined the Forum today - but appreciate that could just be a change of, or new card. Also don't know how you go about selecting your horses - or what tools you use for your FORM STUDY - If any. But ... NATIVE SON ------------------ It was not, as you say - "a two mile flat race " ... It was a BUMPER - there is a difference. A "2 mile FLAT race" would be contested by FLAT-bred horses - who may well have already Won and shown Form at shorter distances - and are now 'stepping up in trip' - with their maturity. A BUMPER - on the other hand - is for late maturing, immature potential JUMPERS.... This particular race being - 'For 5,6,7yo, that have not won a race' NATIVE SON - ran just 4 days ago - and was beaten 21 lengths - returning the comment ... 'Towards rear, closer in 10th approaching straight, no impression and kept on same pace from under 3f out' - and when also ridden by the leading rider in these types of races - Nina Carberry. You could say that - as that was his seasonal re-appearance - he may have needed the race. BUT, equally - As he had not run since OCTOBER LAST YEAR - You could also wonder if just 4 days was too soon for that strategy. Last October Native Son was Pulled Up - again ridden by Nina - with the comment - 'Prominent, ridden over 4f out, soon weakened, pulled up straight' Prior to that race - Native Son was beaten 50 lengths... 'Led and soon clear, reduced advantage approaching straight, soon headed and weakened His two races - before that ... 'Led, ridden and headed 2f out, no extra and dropped to 3rd under 1f out' 'Tracked leaders, lost place from over 4f out, soon no extra, completely tailed off' ------------------------------------------------- Hardly the profile of a horse who was going to either 'kick on' - or, 'find plenty' when asked. Incidentally - R P McNamara has ridden 47 BUMPER WINNERS in the past 5 years. |

Nah, he tried to win. Took the lead and tried to press on, got really animated and whipped the beast a few times, horse found nil. I have seen some dodgy races before but this was not one. Horse is clearly a bridle horse and there are plenty of them about.

Robbie Mac is a disaster when not riding for weld , can remember two races in particular when horses were brought with late runs from impossible positions Miss Mary Mac in a mares bumper in Wexford. One for Davy Fitzgerald in an amateur hurdle in Sligo both should have won doing handstands but finishing 3rd and 2nd respectively instead. Rarely see him employing such tactics for Weld and usually winning cosily if he does.

The jockey in question is extremely talented but would have a high enough oppinion of himself and it comes over in his riding. It usually isn't a decisive factor but it was today.
