Just got back from York, been racing for over 35 years never seen a racecourse so busy, every bar was full, if I had a pound for every bottle of champagne sold there today I would be a rich man. The doom and gloom merchants should have been there to cheer themselves up.

Just wish Ascot and Cheltenham would take note and adjust their pricing to suit, I bought a bottle of champagne today for £35.50 yet the same bottle at Ascot last year at ascot was £62.

£7 to get in the silver and you can take in as much food and drink as you can carry.
the only stipulation is no glasses or glass bottles.
just bring a crate on each shoulder

My lad was at York today and witnessed a big brawl in the Tatts grandstand bar. Very unpleasant, stools being thrown, bar staff assaulted.

I guess it's the usual stuff we see now the footy season is over - well nearly over - it all kicked off when the TV's were showing the penalty shoot-out Huddersfield v Sheffield Utd. Maybe a coincidence but not sure if showing that was the best idea from the York management.

Whilst down south I thought it was pretty quiet at Goodwood considering the weather. Although £23 entry to the grandstand does not help matters. Bookmakers looked very quiet.

good post ronnie.

i cannot understand why racecourses show football ,surely nobody goes racing to watch football on the tv,so there would be no complaints if it wasnt on.

There would be no complaints if it wasn't on but the crowd would also be lower.

On Saturdays in particular it would put off groups of lads who see a day that the races as an alternative to a day in the pub. No bad thing for "proper" racegoers but it would be lost revenue for the tracks.

I think that there are generally 2 sets of "working class" people with disposal income.......people like myself 60+ no mortgage & youngsters getting themselves £400 per wk+ & living at home.........the 2 havent got a lot in common......& the rest are mainly "behind the 8 ball".

two yorkshire teams in a tight playoff climax.  for me it should be shown on the big screen as racing had finished
they had the cricket on before racing.

remember york city last week got back into the football league last weekend and the players were racing yesterday
Report jimnast May 27, 2012 11:11 AM BST
banks in the summer these lads have already booked the trips, anybody wanting to watch the football yesterday could have just gone to wembly if they were that keen.
