Mr Betfair,
Would you kindly explain why I am apparently not worthy of receiving the below offer which my friend was awarded this morning?
Over the years I get regular spam from you pimping frankly crap offers -- then, when a decent one comes along, I am excluded.
Why?
Sometimes I feel I am being treated as a second-class citizen by you; this most recent offer exclusion serves to confirm that notion.

Readers: ........How many of you fellow Betfairians have been the happy recipients of this offer, please?

There is a part in "My Account" "My Profile", a setting to receive info on offers/promotions. If you have that set at "yes" then I'd be interested to find out what they say.

Mines is set at no by the way, so I haven't heard anything about it.

The big problem with a lot of the offers is that you have to "OPT IN". Many times you may in fact have qualified for something but you did not know.

The sooner everyone who participates is automatically OPTED IN the better.
Report Brother Mouzone May 22, 2012 3:02 PM BST
I think the more you use your account the less offers you'll get. I had a couple of weekend footy betting mates getting free bets this winter and I was betting daily and got feck all, I've mostly been using the daq lately and voila.
Report jollie May 22, 2012 3:05 PM BST

Report icebreaker99 May 22, 2012 3:05 PM BST
However Trusty, it would be "nice" to be offered the opportunity to opt-in.
For me there is no invite whatsoever in this instance. Nothing, nada.
I'm not happy.

This is a genuinely good offer, and I'm excluded from it.

I don't care if the Betfair police are reading this ...............
Anyone fortunate enough to have been invited -- just chose option B; pick 4/1, 5/1 etc selections on a race-by-race basis; lay 'em at a close match on ****/Smarkets; stop at a loser or when you reach £200 worth of losers if your float allows; go and collect £200 from nasty Mr Betfair.

All i can say is BAD BETFAIR...VERY BAD BETFAIR...I Excluded myself a year ago or whenever they started from the games or arcade on Betfair not because i have a problem but because i can't be giving FOBT's a hard time on the forum and then playing similar on here. But i banned myself from it for that very reason. Suppose i did have a serious problem with gambling on the arcade games and i did ask to be excluded because of a problem i would expect Betfair to help me or even ask me once a year if i was ok with the exclusion that i can have it lifted anytime but no that's not what i got, this is what i got.

icebreaker, the liquidity is not there on other exchanges to do that more than once... You are not going to be able to get   a matched 2500-500 lay on in one go and get the same price on bf on a Tues. night AW meet.

The offer is a good one for bf and for genuine liquidity providers / opinion players in that it is difficult to arb.

I am paying bf (a low) tens of thousands a year in commission. It's right they invite me to their offer. And I'm pleased that they didn't invite everyone--the bookie needs to win off losing punters or when you win, you don't get paid out!
Report Outpost May 22, 2012 10:58 PM BST

Fair enough, Askari,
But I was thinking more along the lines of drip-feeding £50 bets on a race ( I did say "on a race-by-race basis").
The thing is, I would have probably punted it straight; it's just I was feeling angry at being excluded when I suggested  the arbing angle in my second post.

And I do accept that you were justified in receiving the invite considering the significant commission Betfair have trousered from you over the years. I'm not begrudging anyone who got the offer; best o' luck to everyone is my default position. It's just that I'm quite annoyed that I didn't get it, and if there is an arbitrary selection process by Betfair, then, I would like to know what it is. I've been a customer of this place for 9 years -- punting every single solitary day; I've answered every bloody questionaire they requested from me; and I've donated a fair amount in commission too. Yet, when a decent offer/promotion like this one comes around, I get the cold shoulder.
Not to happy about it at all.

icebreaker--eight years and betting every single day and you didn't get the offer?

If you had hit the winner of the second race at 8-1 for 50 quid you'd have been 400 down and wd need to have lost 600, wh/ still wd have meant you needed to avoid every other winner. At those kinds of betsizes you wd also be giving up 20 quid per race even if beating the spread.

I've lost money this yr on bf so may have qualified on that basis.

I don't need the exchanges to win (in fact, they're actually the last thing I need) but use them too heavily as a smoothing mechanism. The advice I'd give to anyone starting out is to have some way of keeping yr accounts going e.g. through cultivating relationships w/ losers or placers b/f you start and to learn to win w/out any reference to trading or the prices on here at all.

Askari, in truth I wouldn't have the float at Purple or Smarkets to cover that methodology.
But -- and I'm being genuinely upfront and honest with you here -- what I was going to do was choose Option B and bet £200 on the 2/1 fav in the third race ( the Maiden Auction). That was while I was still hoping that Betfair would relent after they received my email and grant me a last-minute bit at the offer. It was not to be of course.
Then I would have layed the horse at the other exchanges.
I would have been up approx £190 after commissions, as it turned out.

FWIW, I believe these style of promotions -- where some people get invited and others are excluded -- are quite self-defeating. Okay, the chosen few are pleased, obviously, but you risk alienating that other segment that has been excluded. I've never understood it as a marketing ploy, and I never will.
