Obviously a very tough race but Im sure this one will have to go close on ground that will scupper many.
Of his 18 career starts, Excellent Guest has ran on ground with the word 'soft' in the going description 3 times, with that record reading 1 win (Cl3 handicap), 1 second (Cl2 Buckingham Palace Stakes at Royal Ascot) and an unplaced (went off 8/1j2f last run of the season).
Co-incidentally, those 3 runs all came over course and distance.
He is certainly weighted to turn around the form with recent Brae Hill on their Bunbury Cup run as he meets him 5lb better here for a 1 3/4 length beating (likelier bigger threat Fastha back in 3rd).
Its also worth noting that Brae Hill's form on ground good to soft or softer currently stands at 0-11.
The key to the race will probably be the early pace as, unusually for a 24 horse handicap, its not overly blessed with front runners.
I see both Nasri and Rodrigo De Torres as the likelier pace setters (both drawn high) which could set it up for Excellent Guest (drawn 22 of 24) who can settle in behind on the rail early and pick them off.
He won on his seasonal reappearance last season so his absence since last summer neednt be too much of a factor.
He is generally a 14s chance but I wouldnt be surprised to see him well backed tomorrow as there are plenty here who wont be relishing this ground.
PPower 14/1 1/4 odds 1-2-3-4-5
Good luck. Opinions welcome.

Just looked through this race and thats the same horse that jumped out at me on the ground and course, run behind Manassas here was probably the best piece of form over C/D on soft going. Looked at robsters thread and he's put a case up for Pravda Street if you'd like to look. Good luck.

Ill have a peek now. There are one or two others I could give a squeak to but youd expect that in a 24 horse handicap I suppose!

makes my short list of four and apart from  Pastoral player who is group class over this
distance  is my pick of the older Horses ....but the 4yo  have a couple of lively candidates
including race fit  King of Jaz  ...on better ground  he would have been the one to beat  imo...the  C .Hills trained  White Frost was also progressive last year and  goes well in soft ground  so he gets my vote  this time

Tariq Too for me - a cracking run from a poor draw on similar ground at Thirsk last week. Lump on

just read what Margarson said about Excellent Guest in the RP. Apparently 'improved out of all recognition over the Winter'. Always nice to hear!

Pastoral Player looks a different class to this lot.

12/1 could look big later on.

Gotta go with Global Village, B/L place for equal profits looks too good to ignore... should be right in there screaming and kicking at the pointy end of this cavalry charge..... gl to all Happy

Leprechaun - I could be wrong, but based on his last performance I would suggest that Global Village wants longer than a mile rather than 7 furlongs.

yep, agree thunder, but with going not suiting quite a few and the draw, and so many runners most of these will run 1m in this 7f race, quite a statement I know, but some logic in there someplace... gl Happy

Although he ran a little disappointingly, its fair to say that connections used that as somewhat of a prep race for todays contest.
I see more than a few bookies are offering 33/1 today.. Very generous, Ill be having a pretty decent ew punt on this fella. Good luck.
