David Coleman is 86 years old today.  Happy Birthday David.

Quite remarkably, he's still going. Perhaps you're think of Kenneth Wolstenholme? - it's all over for him.

One of the top men at his trade imo, could inform the viewer on almost all sports and in the days of live broadcasting could entertain when things went pear shaped.Had the opportunity to meet him several years ago and was struck by his humour and the ability to laugh at his renowned Colemanballs.

Perhaps you are thinking of Harry Carpenter?  Although that was only a couple of years back.

No, but according to famous Elvis/Lennon biographer Albert Goldman, David WAS another notch on the bedpost of the notorious Queenie Watts during one of her occasional attempts to make Wilfred Hyde White and Robrt Morley jealous.

In truth of course neither men gave a monkeys and took off for a big Parisian racing weekend, Wilferd arriving at the track with half a dozen long-haired, long-legged lovelies he'd picked up in the Bois de Boulogne, only one of whom turned out to be female.

Wilfred was the guest of honour at the Crazy Horse that weekend. He played drums in the band while thr girls did their strips and dances, famously setting fire to the drums at the end of one number.

Years later Jimi Hendrix set fire to his own guitar at Monterey in tribute to the great man.

That Queenie was quite some woman, Robert Mitchum proposed to her twice but she refused, she must have had the pick of the men

In Ascot's 1974 Queen Anne Stakes, I backed the first past the post Confusion at 20/1. I didn't think they could possibly give  it to the second so had a "clever" saver on the third past the post (Royal Prerogative) at 5/1. The wonderful Ascot stewards disqualified the first three who were well ahead of the fourth Brook.
As I went to back something on the Tote next race Robert Morley was just in front of me and I had to suffer him merrily telling the lady clerk that he backed Brook because he loved Italy (I think he had a house there) and Brook had Italian links. I quite liked Robert Morley as an actor but he irritated me that day!
