ATR 7 seconds behind

Well according to Duncan the delay, which has been there and varied for years will cause a mass exodus of ATR viewers, advertisers will desert and the station will collapse....well it hasn't happened in the umpteen years I've been reading these threads complaining about the delay.

I had sky put in so that I could receive this rancid channel and also know several people who have sky but dont receive atr,the reason being it's not part of the channel package they subscribed to.The clue is in the word subscribed mr pillock.

i pay an extra £2.50 a month for ATR as part of a entertainment extra sky package...so it aint free....its gone up to £5 extra since....hmmmmmmmGrin

Well write to them and tell them you are no longer subscribing to that package and see what they say........hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm....No you won't and they know it.....thats why they don't give a flying **** about your moaning.

Laughable channel....presenters are a whos who of poor performers......too numerous examples to speak of whether it be Maple toasting an emotional winner for Deano at Doncaster or the hit show Get On....utter shambles...

Ykickamoocow, not necessarily true mate. I made over 300 points profit this jumps season using ATR & RUK in-running. Agreed I would be about 25% better off for faster pics but it doesn't make THAT much difference because i'm only up against a handful of people who are getting faster pics than me, being at the track!

Red Hiney - if you're using ATR pics you really are a fool and I don't believe a word of your 300 points profit using those pics.RUK maybe but not ATR.

i believe you RHM..i've done well myself from home the last 5 yrs....however, ATR defo got harder for me since a) geezers allowed to go on course b) additional time delay kicking in last July...and i couldnt say i was a serious IR player cos the lag means i simply cant do it to large stakes...maybe you're MO is different...anyway, credit to you and good luck

Although, I hasten to add, It wasnt an intention of mine to seek credit, I was pointing out that people seem to immediately assume that because THEY cant make money using ATR pics then NOBODY can, when they are in fact 100% incorrect.

Yes, it's not ideal but using BF video (when it works) shaves 3 seconds off for a start. Plus, I find it difficult to get more than £200 on at above 12ish coz the liquidity is low. But, aslong as you know what youre doing, then its perfectly possible to make a living betting in-running, even using ATR pics!

i take it you're a backer rather than a layer, RHN? i've always been a layer myself IR...presume you use Gruss or somesuch? cheers...no more questions!

API is a must! Yes I am a backer, Laying is far too stressful! When you get it wrong you're losing multiple points in one go, if u get the backing wrong you're only losing a point :P

been 150 meters behind live pics in flat races is colossal,especially over sprint distances.ATR provide this facility for those who chose to use it.i dont..i agree with Duncan.....adapt or die

It doesn't make sense 10/15 years ago we could watch live pictures through analogue and now with technology etc it's now running 7 seconds behind.Solution bring back analogue .
       Secondly all the serious i/r punters are at the ATR courses/tracks taking advantage of this 7 second delay.

i was the first to highlight ATR's new time lag last year on here and it was done to death...they refused to respond to anyone on the subject...they did go back to 3/4 seconds and its still around that now..with irish racing its maybe 4/5seconds...i dont know cause it doesnt affect what i do anymore........RUK i use for IR...its a great way to bet.nothing better than a full RUK race day..mute on of course ..back/lay myself

Secondly, when youre at the track, you can only bet on ONE meetig a day! Sitting in front of my monitor I can bet 3, 4, 5 meetings a day. The profit I can make out those will easily balance out the extra profit i'd make out of FOUR seconds extra gained on track (Four seconds because BF Vid is 3 secs ahead of ATR on SKY)

i think ppl have forgotten the old ways of just backing a horse straight..we are side tracked by topics such as this..laying is another addition to betting that has steered us away from actually doing it the way we used to..In-Running is another distraction.our brains cant cope.we are going around is a constant state of puzzlement..the only ppl not going around in this trance like state are bookies...get back to basics ppl and there may be some hope for us all..technology has messed it all up....in more ways than u think...

Just in case there are people on the forum who have'nt worked
out why the atr pics are between 7-9 secs behind the live action, despite the technolgy
being there to relay them a lot quicker.
Let me point out the obvious and the following, atr are mostly owned by the bookies,
large portions of punters money is held back for in running betting, the bookies
can't get a piece of it, so they make it almost impossible for stay at home punters, who have even two brain
cells working togather, to risk a bet. Last time I checked there were 450 thousand atr viewers. They want you
to bet pre-race, and preferably with them.

Even when you are on course betting i/r it is still not that easy to do .

track players are in freefall...they are the worst IR players of all...and they pay a fortune for the privilege...

where does the 7/9 secs come from...last time i watched ATR which was last night i had it 3/4secs behind...can we conform this figure pulled out of the sky...its def not 7/9secs..of course i live in Ireland..

Eeeyore, if it was easy, track or home, everyone would be doing it. It requires judgement, knowledge, anticipation, discipline and skill. Those lacking in any of these areas need not apply.

ykick, that's a pretty bizarre post (10:46), presumably reflecting your own current state rather than that of others....if you can make money out of laying, lay...if you can make money out of backing, back...if you can make money out of IR, play IR....if you study form and find opportunities laying, backing and IR, do all 3 to the best of your abilities...no-one's forgotten you can have a bet on the nose...just that to do so is not always the most profitable way to exploit what you know.

pics from the track they are operating from, you are taking them on at a considerable disadvantage
So the only way you can get any edge is from jump racing, betting early and on the one's that are
out the back, is that what you are claiming/doing

How to become a good track player for next year?

I am very out of shape. I get these horrible stitches from clambering all day long. I have never played any other sport,and I am always out of breath for short periods just before the last. Please help me! Is it possible that I can become a good Track Player so I can rule the tracks this time next year? I'm 85 years old and in a world of my own.

claiming to be successful using atr pics really only muddies the waters and is not the point, the 7 second delay (and increasing by the year) is what puts people off and therefore affects liquidity, the next generation are not going to choose horse racing for betting over football etc until something changes

rhm,as you say it is possible to win money sitting at home playing in running,but that is with live video and not ATR,i would have to qeustion that you win long term using ATR pictures which i think you claimed you could b4 you mentioned you use live video,that 3 seconds is probably the most important 3 seconds in an in running bettors life

Over the jumps I would have no reason to disbelieve anyone who said they make money using ATR pics.
Plenty time to make a judgment and get a bet on.Sometimes over the longer trips you can place a bet and the odds are still the same 30 secs later never mind 5 or secs.

Starfish, you are correct. Flat is a completely different ball game ad I have methods of supplementing my income on the flat than in-running punting.

Barnster, if BF Vid is down, the I use 415. it really makes little difference

where the 7-9 second delay came out of is DUBIOUS...3 secs mostly today at Perth..i counted 2 seconds at end of last perth race from when suspended to horse crossing the line..3 seconds most..9 seconds is laughable...RUK is right on suspend sometimes horses jumping before suspend..so that is pretty dam good...how far off the betfair suspend can be added..1/2sec...i just presume the guy pressing the button to suspend is on course..but i dont know that..could someone clear this up...thanks

Definitely do not use the BF suspend as any sort of guide!

ykick, when i use to watch on analogue, the suspend sign would appear anything upto 3 seconds AFTER the winner has crossed the line .

that analogue was like printing money

ATR in Ireland is almost 2 seconds ahead of ATR in the UK as it is transmitted on a different transponder. In the UK it is about 7 seconds behind the live action.

depending on the speed of the delay , will determine how you you will play ( a little rhyme to remember , although i just made it up )

i started betting in running on atr and ruk on virgin cable , yes thats right , virgin cable . i was able to hold my own beacuse i wouldn't lay a horse to lose outright, but would lay off a back bet at various prices . i would watch the race and only have between 1 -2 back bets , making a decision about half way through a race .

when analogue channel 4 or bbc was on, i was a layer, because if i layed a horse that was looking to me that it wouldn't win but then started to run well, the price of the horse was still good enough to enable me to back it to only lose a few quid . you cant do that on slow pictures, because by the time you see it running well, it will be odds on( ish ) leaving a big liability whether it wins or loses .

so remember

Fair Enough, but it still makes little difference to me. I make a very good profit. All the delay does is stop me from earning more because the prices I'm taking may be slightly less than if I was betting at the track.

But even then that doesnt mean to say the track boys are betting on the same thing as me! (or anyone else betting on TV pictires at home for that matter).

I might think a horse at 12 in running is value and the track boys are looking at something completely different to me! Just because they have faster pics doesnt necessarily mean they get better prices on what im betting on!! No need to assume everyone is trying to back the same horse at the same time

LOL TRD I really don't care mate. The fact is, and to end this silly arguement, You CAN make money, GOOD money playing the in-running markets at home on ATR. End of story. I am, amongst countless others no doubt, living proof of that.

Anyone that thinks you cant is either a) a moron b) a lost cause in the world of betting or c) in denial because THEY can't make it pay. Or all three perhaps.

Everything you say is correct apart from the part that is highlighted.Depending on when and where you bet you can bet horses that are travelling well and the price will still be what it was when the fast pic boys seen it.Not all these track boys are willing to travel the length of the country,pay all the expenses to start backing horses mid race.

If you try to make money off atr i/r, you must become very frustrated at times.

I dont beleive its possible, the only time we are all on a level playing field is 10 seconds before the off.

Thats when you know if your good at making money.

RHM did you find in the analogue days you made more money on those races than you were on ATR?

i find with ATR if u hestitate for a split second its magnified 5 times over and u will always miss the price u want.esp on the flat.i say price u want..there is still value in backing bigger odds to smaller stakes if ur a good judge and willing to let most of the stake ride on the nose..recovering the stake is good also..i def work differently on ATR to RUK...someone said the pics are 2 seconds faster in Ireland with ATR..i do believe i see that difference everyday with certain horses..2 seconds doesnt sound like a lot but in the in -running game its a lifetime

The only way you can win money playing in running using ATR pics is to have a good knowledge of the horses.For example which horse is a bridle ponce,finds under the cosh etc etc. Put a back or lay into the system to suit what you think will happen.
