Can I just ask, seeing as how we all pay a subscription that compared to many sky channels would be seen as expensive (however many bottles of wine Rod Fabricious thinks it compares to?)

Why, in that case, do we have to listen to daily segments of PURE PLOP from various bookmakers representatives?

It's not like any viewers will really give a monkeys if a mythical 20k has been laid at 5/4 is it?

Why not have a thought provoking 'blog spot' or monologue from one of their raft of pundits, there's plenty of stuff from them on their website........? Gotta be better than Dave Williams making out the magic sign lay allcomers?

Probably because the Bookmakers want people to buy into the gamble at the end of the market they want, a bit like the Buy to let flats on developments that are worth about a 1/3 of what they were bought for.

Never understood why for a channel we pay for they offer far less other than live racing compared to ATR. For example Sunday Forum, Racing News, Get On. But then I suppose the audience who watches RUK also watch ATR so there is no need for both to show anything on a daily basis.

The utter disdain, and aloof attitude, with which the Broadcasters - all of them - the Media - and the Racecourses .... not to even mention the Bookmakers -

Treat their PAYING CUSTOMERS - is akin to the dictatorial attitude of those running the Arab Spring States.

This has for the last two years intrigued me zil. Just who exactly are they trying to kid ? The vast majority of RUK watchers know that the spivs are talking absolute bollócks. The subscribers gamble or they wouldn't pay for it, and all gamblers know they are being fed shoíte.

So i ask again, just who are they trying to kid ?

They think we are all idiots, I dont think there woould be much of a drop in turnover if they ceased all marketing work on the two trade channels.......
Report guinness2dear April 19, 2012 7:48 PM BST
But surely the spivs know that the audience doesn't believe a word of it, which as i say intrigues me..

And that makes them the bigger eejits in my book. They are paying a channel to advertise, who's core audience knows they are spouting balderdash and piffle..
Report zilzal1 April 19, 2012 7:55 PM BST
Guiness, probably on the same principal that if they catch em young them they can play em for a while, a bit like charging a young man a ridiculous amount for a football match, pop concert or even a drink(i hear a price of a pint at the Olympics will be £8!!)

Because they get them young they become used to it, whilst older people will KNOW its rubbish

It's very easy production as well. Cheap filler.
Report guinness2dear April 19, 2012 8:00 PM BST
I understand that zil, but how many of the core audience is that 'young' ? According to most apologists and those that 'know' the younger gambler doesn't give a flying fahook about Horse Racing...

I dont know Guinness, how many of their core audience is gullible though??

I was amazed by a programme on the beeb the other week in which they gave a maths question that apparently half the country struggle with, which to my mind, could have been done it less than a minute by a 12yo
Report guinness2dear April 19, 2012 8:09 PM BST
Well that was my first thought, but would the gullible (in regards to spivs) pay a subscription ? The only peeps it seems to me who don't know of the books sharp practices and general codswallop, are the betting shop fodder and once a year punter..

Perhaps the spivs are just a comedy interlude ?

coverage on ruk is about 30 years out of date, i dont believe its about giving the paying subscriber what they think he/she wants, i consider it is more about keeping members of the gravytrain in work

as i've said before, the pundits add cost and increase transmission delay, they also get in the way of seeing the horses, rarely do they seem to say anything you couldnt have read about in the RP or similar and its a mute for many anyway

the grand national was a good example of a horses price spiking due to what was happening going to post, namely the favourite after being unseated, normally when a horses price goes out i become interested but that only works if i know the full facts and too often we are listening to a post race interview that could be left till later and then bingo they are all at the post and we've missed the prelims, but is information for punters good for racing

all in all i think its another case of doing what they like because they know they have exclusivity and extra income from advertising adds to what is probably a very healthy profit, what happened to the fta pledge ?

Got to admit WTF do we have to see the presenters
Miss so much paddock stuff & cantering to start whilst cameras focus on the presenters
I do not need to know every second filling between races what Lucky & co look like.
Report Sir Epicure Mammon April 19, 2012 8:57 PM BST
The whole racing industry is kept going by punters losing ie Bookies profits.
All the Watering to maintain ( bookmakers profits ! ) and filling airtime with waffling bookies spivs and not showing horses in the paddock ( which would be useful to punters) is surely to that end??
Report Grey Shot April 19, 2012 9:14 PM BST
Should just have a camera in the paddock and Racetech feed. Get shot of all the hangers on.

Thought it was shocking coverage from Newmarket, hardly a single shot of a horse in the paddock and little of them going to post.
It's not as though they didn't have the time when it is essential to see horses in the paddock, prior to the 2yo maiden & the Wood Ditton for example.
Just watch Australian coverage any Saturday morning, they always find time to show the horses in the paddock.
Report Sweep Toast Vole April 20, 2012 9:24 AM BST
The channel and its presenters have believed their own hype and disappeared up their own backsides. Although compared to C4, the Beeb and ATR, you can hardly blame them for feeling so smug.

The last thing we need is a second does of these programmes.

Get On is absolute garbage, brimful of bookies reps talking rubbish. The trainer interviews can be ok but that is about it.

Sunday Forum that allows Big Mac, Duval, McGrath etc is not worth paying even the slightest attention to.

Racing News is mostly a waste as well other than maybe providing going updates. That is available on RP Live Reporter and is the only thing that I use that for.

RUK should show relevant form, pre-paddock coverage, paddock coverage, analysis of going down to the start and some price updates (although we get them on the machine anyway), replay and analysis and trainer/jockey interview, then do the exact same for next race and so on. Nothing else is required.
Report guinness2dear April 20, 2012 3:08 PM BST
Many have wanted that from RUK for years, DV, they have never listened to their subscribers. And now they have to give airtime to allow their spivvy bed pals to promote their garbage, it's never going to happen (not that it ever was mind)

Also, as Rider said, whatever happened to fta ?
Report MC Roller April 20, 2012 5:19 PM BST
Well, the customer is always right. All subscribers should phone/email racing uk and request more paddock shots, and be able to view horses going to post. My guess is, they don't want to give punters useful information. All you can do is request better coverage or you'll stop subscribing.

That means extra work though. Far easier to moan on here than complain directly, backing up what you believe in. If customers don't care, companies will continue to take the pi55.
Report Rider April 20, 2012 8:34 PM BST
mc roller, i have written to ruk and guess what, no reply, i would like to cancel my sub but whats the alternative if you follow the sport, as it is my betting on the flat is greatly reduced due to the lack of shots of prelims, the market is now so reactive i'd rather bet on sports where things are fairer and unsurprisingly my ROI's better. Horses in paddock and to post at Newmarket this week is essential, how fit are horses, have they wintered well, will they handle the ground etc its a big part of the jigsaw for serious punters

i noticed today fremantle saying (in the RP) his punting high of the week was moonstone magic, "stood out in the paddock and going to post"

RUK are they on their subscribers side or the bookmakers ?

Did that and a lot more, i don't subscribe anymore.

Do they miss me ? Like fark they do, once they took the 30 pieces of silver off the spivs, whatever customer interest they had (if any) went the same way as 'The Captain's' training career..

Absolutely no reason to keep interviewing bookies reps, and the festival was full of it everyday.
As Roller says,we need far more coverage of the horses before the races-in particular in the paddock, where races can be won and lost.Thats far more crucial and important than listening to Simon Clare and co.
Before long i will be at the races seeing people asking them for autographs-bl00dy ridiculous.
Come on RUK,give us some value for our subscription, and stop giving us unhelpful drivel.
Report Rider April 21, 2012 10:21 AM BST
and here's another thought, why not have a 2 hour program before racing where the pundit of the day gives his/her opinions on their extensive dvd research for the meeting and then during racing concentrate on what is most relevant to the punter at that time - live shots, ruk need to think of the race starting from when the horses enter the paddock and follow as much of them as they can live (ok not always possible on busy days), but in most cases they should be able to cover at least the first 6 in the betting, save all post race interviews till after racing or the review

this is dreamland of course but not as difficult to achieve in reality
