Simon Rowlands: Sectionals show Black Caviar in a league of her own.
Black Caviar has shown herself to be capable of speeds which Frankel has not yet been recorded as achieving.

HTF you can compare 1 track with another over a different trip never mind a different continent 1/2 way round the world.
Plenty of other factors that have a bearing on time such as ground/wind direction/air temperature/humidity.
Try riding a bike on a cold day with the wind against then try same trip on a warm day with wind behind.
probably a 20% difference in time for the same power output.

We have known those 'Sectionals' from half-an-hour after each of her races.

Given out LIVE on SKyRacing Australian broadcast - on ATR every night.
Report duffy April 19, 2012 4:44 PM BST
couldn't agree more with her being in a league of her own....she is a clear 2nd best behind frankel, nothing else is anywhere near her in that category.

Treat yourself..
Here are the more detailed workings most helpfully provided by Bob Wilkins in response to a query of mine:

"The nub of your query is - "if Frankel was timed at 10.99s over a furlong at Ascot, where the uphill gradient is 1.3%, how much faster could this have been if the track had been level"?

The way of dealing with an uphill gradient is given on page 45 of "Bioenergetics and Racehorse Ratings". In addition to the cost of running on the level, there is an extra component of power needed to counteract the gravitational force acting downhill, and the overall effect is to increase the cost of running, Cr.

Using the Ascot gradient the effect is to increase Cr from the standard value of 3.728 to 3.855. We only need to consider this and the air-resistance term. The kinetic energy term can be ignored as this is a sectional timing, not a race with a standing start.

So the first step is to calculate the power P required to run a furlong in 10.99s with Cr = 3.855 i.e. with the gradient.

The next step is to assume the same effort (P) is used without the gradient (Cr = 3.728) and equate this to the right hand side of the Power Equation. This then gives the new speed, and hence the time taken, which comes out to 10.63s, a reduction of 0.36s.

I have tried tackling this using other (less accurate) methods, and I'm happy that these figures are pretty close to reality."

Are you a bit simple Harry?

Do you think anyone is at all surprised that a horse who is the top sprinter in the world can run faster on a flat track than a horse who is the top miler in the world does on a more undulating track?

I watxh a reasonable amount of Aussie Racing on a friday/ saturday evening over the course of the year and my impressions are;
- shocking jockeys
- paceless races
- one dimentional racing same as France
- if a horse was put to the sword from the off by a top class European nag, it will fold like a Ricky Ponting tail

Over 7 furlongs upwards Frankel will beat Black Caviar, and not just beat it destroy it as the reality is that in Convict land Caviar is only asked to race for 3 or 4 furlongs against the mighty frankel it wiill be forced to race at a pace it is not used to/ or incapable of matching from the off.

By the way wasnt SO YOU THINK supposed to destroy our middle distance superstars??

Aussie sprinters are decent, but once they go above a mile they are useless.

Aussie Jockeys are absolutely hopeless, name me one who has made a decent fist of it over here (last 30 years) where a degree of tactcial nous and strength is required. I can remember Brent Thomson who was absolutely abysmal, he only won on a nag if it was a stone well in, Kerrin McEvoy who was weaker than a drowning wet paper bag and as for High Bowman less said the better. Aussie riders use the whip like the queen uses her hand to wave at crowds from the royal carriage, its patronising and glosses over the fact they aint really trying!!!

As Gladiator rightly points out Muis Roberts was indeed South African.

Also please note that my comment said in the last 30 years what have Australian racing contributed to race-riding, naff all is the answer.

Breasley was indeed apparently a genius and in fact my Grandad rated him above Piggott, as for Hutchinson he too was handy but apparently not the greatest tactician according to my dear departed and knowledgeable Grandad.

Totally agree on hom being freckin useless I think he took over as Sheikh Mo number one from Cauthen or soon after and the difference in the quality of riding was as wide as the grand canyon, he had that unenviable knack of never being in the right place at the right time and was weaker in a finish than I am when I run for the bus at 6am....................
