Been trying to back pre race and input lay requests  to be matched in running to green up.
However nievely think I am not doing things right. Can anyone else point me to a better strategy.

Done these today. (sample)

1 backed baldini pre race @ 5.6 lay request in @ 3.7 to get approx half point green screen. matched
2 backed homeward strutt @ 3.5 pre race, lay request in @2.36 to get half a point green screen. matched.
3 backed forest edge @ 15.0, pre race lay request in @10.0 to get half point green screen. matched ( thinks bf sp was 29.0!!!)
4 backed ruby glass @ 10.5 put lay request in pre race @7.0 to get half point green screen, didnt hit price lost stake.

the above is a sample of todays bets.

the exact number of bets today were 12, of which 3 won at odds  that i took pre race of 5.6, 2.46 and 6.2.

2 of the winners were shorter on the off, slightly and one drifted 6.2 went off at approx 8.6.

2 of the 12 selections never hit the required price in running so lost stake.

SO today 12 selections, 9 hit requested price for half a point profit, 3 didnt given a total of 1 and half points profit for the day.

Spoke to a freind over the phone who knows more than me regarding betfair and he sort of said tho what I done was good but I didnt maximise the profits of those that went on to go much lower than my request price and to be honest I didnt get it.
He also pointed out that keeping drifters would not be profatable long term and I would be better getting out with a request slightly lower than what my original back price . i.e backed at 14.0 long term better off requesting 13.0 to get out.

Can any one point the obvious failings regarding just getting half a point and explain to me in laymans terms the better strategy of getting more out of the ones that go lower.

He said something along the lines off put request in for your stake at half the price then another request in a bit lower then again lower again, but  I dont quite get it.

Think I have covered everything so any pointers to the simple equation would be grateful.

Please do not swear as I am a female but can take the banter.

Many thanks for any help you can give.

I've revamped the "How to use Patternform" and written a beginners guide to help newbies - I hope it helps, although for trading the Moneyform card is what you need and the help on DOBBING and ADVANCED DOBBING should give you some pointers on how to gear your trades.

This is what you need

(T+1)/G+1= B/TS

Should be fairly obvious which is the back stake, in running stake and total state
