Thats my worry ELG.
Events today were very sad, losing our Gold Cup winner is terrible for the sport and no-one wanted to see that. We do however have to prepare for the AR/RSPCA/Twitter attack on the sport as a whole. I've said elsewhere, if and more likely when they get the GN banned then its all downhill from there. |

Just watched the BBC highlights programme and it was an add for the RSPCA.
Gotta say in Ireland under similar circumstances the deaths would have been an off shoot and not really mentioned Rishi & the programmme could hardly have made a bigger deal about it if they tried. |

I would say that a lot of people watching the race on BBC and the highlights would want the GN banned. Perhaps rightly so. The sickening deaths do nothing for NH racing at all. Times have changed I'm afraid. Urgent action is needed. Supporters of the GN can crow on all they like, but the simple fact is that after a couple more episodes like this, then it will be in the spotlight and banned. What we have to worry about is if the whole of NH racing is put to the sword because of this outdated race, It is no longer viewed as a sport, but carnage by many who in fact have a very good argument.

but surely brushing the deaths under the carpet would be the wrong to do..............it was a great race marred by two accidents. the distress according too petes lass was truly heartbreaking to watch..........but that IS jump racing , because around the corner from every triumph their lurks dispair......lets salute the winners ,but we must also acknowlege the hurt as well
