ITS BARBARIC

HORSES LIKE TO RUN BUT 4 MILE PLUS AROUND THAT COURSE IS GRUELLING, ITS HARDLY SUPRISING THAT SO MANY HORSES FALL ESPECIALLY LATE ON AS THEY ARE BEING PUSHED TO THERE LIMITS AND BEYOND.

FOOTBALLERS HAVE A CHOICE WHETHER THEY PLAY FOOTBALL OR NOT, HORSES HAVE NO CHOICE IF THEIR OWNERS AND TRAINERS WANT THEM TO RUN IN THE GRAND NATIONAL.

Bob - before the race I could have guaranteed you at least 1 horse would be dead by the end of it. can you say that about the players in football?... or ANY other televised sport?

BOB

RACEHORSES ARE BRED TO RACE, AGREED

BUT RACEHORSES SHOULDN'T BE PUT INTO SUCH A GRUELLING ENVIROEMENT WHERE MOST OF THEM ARE NOT GUARENTEED STAY 4 MILE PLUS, MOST ARE STRUGGLING FOR BREATH IN THE LATTER STAGES, THERE HEARTS WILL BE BEATING DANGEROUSLY HIGH DUE TO THE DEMANDS OF THE RACE.

HORSES HAVE NO CHOICE, IF THEY START TO TIRE THEY GET A CRACK WITH THE WHIP, IS IT ANY WONDER YOU GET SO MANY FALLERS UNDER THOSE CONDITIONS WHEN THEY BARELY HAVE THE ENERGY TO JUMP A FACE IN THE LATTER STAGES. YOU SEE THE TAIL ENDERS GOING THROUGH THE FENCES LATE ON, NOT OVER THEM DUE TO HOW TIRED THEY ARE, THEY CAN BARELY TAKE OFF WHICH IS NO SUPRISE.

Due to the fact that humans willingly embrace all sorts of risks in their jobs, sporting careers and leisure pursuits, it is only reasonable to assume that horses would make a similar choice if able to. Also, the jockeys on board willingly embrace the risks of the race.

accidents do happen unfortunately, a horse could slip up on the gallops at home and break a leg, it just happens, how do you explain all the loose horses that carry on jumping round even when there are no jockey's on board?, no one is forcing them to do that, if a horse has had enough it will get to the next fence and refuse and there is nothing at all any jockey can do about that

Man's game, steeplechasing.

BBC coverage has become nothing but an apologists charter pandering to the masses who watch once a year. My daughter put her cross country horse round 7 miles of jumps yesterday - nothing out of the ordinary. Most on here know NOTHING about horses and have never even sat on one.

Synchronised should have been taken out of the race after dumping AP and bolting - blame the owner and trainer.

Shame about According to Pete, though...

Quite the OPPOSITE - isn't it.

FEW Fallers Late on -

Many more Fallers EARLY on .... through going too FAST, too SOON.
