Turf TV is still slower since the move and will never be as it was.
Track players and betfair will be happiest. |
By:
Thought as much.
The turf tv tracks are probably to blame. No doubt they will have seen how much the SIS tracks have been getting from on course players hiring out the hospitality boxes for in running and would have wanted a slice of the pie. That new(ish) delay (that has been put there on purpose) will give the track players the incentive to go to these courses more often now where as before probably not as many would have went compared to SIS tracks. Or maybe the track players just wanted/needed a bigger edge at these courses. Either way if I was tied into a contract with turf tv I would be fuming. |

there were alot of people moaning about the turf tv pics being slowed down , but after a few days they stopped moaning because it was put back to normal speeds .
there was a piece in the racing post about it , exchange shop owners and punters complaining, there are no more complainers now imo . |
By:
Has it been put back to normal? If it has SIS has got faster as Turf used to be ahead of SIS.
What ever has happened SIS is now ahead. There was talk of SIS getting quicker once they went fibre optic mind you. Can anyone confirm? Thanks |

starfish , all i know is that there were alot of people that were moaning on here about turf tv being the same speed as ruk .
after about 1 week there were a few messages on the forum how the speed of turf tv was back to what it was ( 0.7 seconds behind live i think ) . i have not read anything about SIS . |
By:
Yeah I seen them.
They seemed more annoyed about Ruk being the same as Turf than the fact that turf had actually been delayed in the 1st place.Madness. |
By:
AM I MISSING SOMETHING BUT SIS DONT COVER CATTERICK OR NOTTINGHAM?
By:
turf tv now marginally in front of ruk...some "turf" tracks seem well behind further behind than usual eg kempton/ponte based on prices on gruss requested
sis has not been speeded up to my knowledge and is still behind turf turf though in summary seems further behind c 1.25-1.3 than normal 0.8s delay... hope this helps |
By:
Turf Tv has NEVER returned to 0.8 secs behind since the studio change and have no intention of speeding up from the current 1.2 secs. They see it as a compromise to all players helping the track and exchange shops alike.
A total disgrace IMO as it shows that pictures are being manipulated to favor certain gamblers. |
By:
so what is the time difference between turf and ruk today anyone know
![]() ![]() |
By:
0.2 secs behind on sky 2.2 behind on virgin
By:
miles behind BBC2 analogue today
By:
thats what it was a few weeks ago so why do the speeds keep changing is it to keep everyone on there toes only people to benefit are the track players
![]() ![]() |
By:
Not just track players as people are skyping the live pics to multiple computers and then skyped again again and again so who knows how many get it.
Beamed directly via skype to Highgate for a start. |
By:
surely there must be a way courses can sell their track pics PPV, no frills just live and 100% horses straight to the end user (so no delays other than the speed it takes to get there, 0.8 sec), £10 a meeting ?
By:
speeds vary depending on the track
By:
ten quid a meeting crickey
more like a tonne imo |
By:
I was told by an SIS insider that they were in discussion with supplying an in running punter live racetech feeds but hadn't decided whether to go ahead with it or not as yet.

lets see dustybin, 4 meetings a day for say 360 days, thats only £144,000 per year overhead with your price model
By:
Absolutely true, 0%profit.
By:
racetech is closed circuit you idiot
By:
He said they were in discussion with a punter about supplying live feeds, I assumed he meant Racetech. He said a decision had not been made about it at the time.
By:
The SIS thing makes perfect business sense to me. They know technology is moving quickly and as mentioned people are already getting the live pics via Skype. The "home" service is almost redundant to in running players so something has to change. Not sure if SiS have the rights to send live pics to trading shops or if the racecourses could stop it though.
Would be a tidy income to SIS if it went ahead though. |

Hopefully everyone can bet IR on course with i-pad/ Smartphone when 4G reaches Britain.

Rider
They aint gunna do it for a tenner a meeting. They will be sacrificing SiS subs to do it and greed will dictate things. The rights holders wont give a xxxx about it being expensive, they will tell you the convenience factor and efficiency comes at a price. Also fewer will go to track and at the end of the day you can bet your arse they'll come up with some reasoning about infrastructure not being the correct one and having to finance its implementation....much like the water/gas/electricity/banks(current accounts) get you to pay for all. |
By:
how many people do you think would pay , say £30 per day for all fixtures .
there are only about 50 home subscribers to SIS . |
By:
dustybin my point to you is that not many people are going to pay in excess off £100k a year for pics, maybe the rights would be a problem, perhaps there is a way round them, there is without doubt a market for better pictures (at a realistic price)
By:
Im guessing at 100 notes a day, but its going to be on the high side, it would be a specialist product aimed at a small target market of winners who travel and pay and/or are pros away from the track.
By:
fast pics/at course accuracy are single most important aspect Id imagine for the big winners paying regulaler 60% premium tax
Why wouldnt the rights holders have their carve up too? |
By:
thoght you said £100 a meeting before
By:
tracks don;t want to lose revenue from selling hospitality rooms so i guess dustybin is right would be at least similiar to what track players pay now
By:
its a question of economics, each track can decide for itself, a price and whether they offer it, currently there are alot of middlemen delaying pics and adding cost
By:
how do the picture providers receive money ( profit ) from track players ?
By:
I was refering to each track 100 a day.
Its perhaps high but I just cant see em doing anyone any favours....take it or leave it as far as they are concerned, they wond udermine their established product for peanuts...we all know how greed is on many levels within racing. |
By:
Ill agree to differ though rider, we are all guessing but for me it'll be closer to 100 than 10
By:
the price would be dictated by maximising revenue even at £50/ meeting you are talking £72K/year, if several people got together it could work i suppose but i still think a lower figure is probable, whether tracks have the entrepreneurial nous is another matter
By:
I dont think either figure will ever be seen
Id be amazed twice over if 1. it happens 2. is under 50 quid a track |
By:
As I pointed out before 100s getting pictures via skype at the cost of 1 seat at the track.
Exchange in London already getting skype pictures from all tracks daily. |
