Dandino now with Fanshawe!

Management decided they wanted another Cheltenham Festival winner so in thier infinite wisdom thought Dandino would fit the bill,so removed him from James Givens yard and placed him with Nicky Henderson for intensive schooling and assesment from his team at Seven Barrows,a large smoke screen was then sent up for several weeks to the effect that Dan was doing great at the hurdling malarkey.....until...enter Champion jockey Tony McCoy...who after schooling Dandino for the first time,ventured that he would never amount to anything over obstacles...hooray for Tony.Dandino has stamina worries over 1m 2,to think he can get even the minimum trip 2m at a competitive pace over hurdles is fanciful to say the least.Hoping James Faneshawe can take him to another level on the flat now that common sense has finally prevailed,my only gripe is that James Given has largely been made to look a fool for no apparent reason.

Hardly stuggles to get 10f on the flat, won a 12f group 2 at newmarket ffs!

Shame for James Given to lose him, did a great job with him.

Thanks for the reply Mubtaker, I doubt if Mr Fanshawe can get any more out of Dandino than James Given has already, shame to lose your best horse when you've done so well with it.

smart Dandino has had his jumps career put on hold and is set to stay on the Flat next season under the guidance of James Fanshawe.

The four-year-old, who won the Group 2 Jockey Club Stakes at Newmarket for James Given in May, had joined Nicky Henderson this autumn.

However, after failing to take to his new vocation in schooling sessions at Seven Barrows, the Elite Racing Club's leading performer is to be returned to the Flat.

Matthew Budden, speaking on behalf of Elite, said: "Dandino had some schooling with Nicky but we have decided to put his jumps career on hold for now and he is with James Fanshawe.

"James will assess where we go with him with a view to resuming his Flat career. Although he started pretty early last year, there are no plans to go to Dubai with him as he is currently having a break."

Dandino won six of his fourteen starts for Given, including the King George V Stakes at Royal Ascot last year. He was last seen when finishing ninth behind Opinion Poll in the Group 2 Lonsdale Cup in August

Shame to see Given lose the horse, he made the horse, campaigned him really well
He always looked well too, and seemed to run his race most days. Horse's have their limit
and I think Given found it. He seems genuine a type, but I'll be surprised if he ends
the season higher than 113. He's now a 5yo, who's had lots of tough races, they don't
keep coming back year after year

the idea to run such a good horse over hurdles was stupid...why would u bother..given did a great job with him and i imagine disagreed with the horse taking this path...paul mulrennan will probably lose the ride now as well which is a pity considering his long lay off..i hope elite racing do the honourable thing and let paul keep the ride..but as we have seen in the past loyalty in this game is non existent...greed is very prevalent in racing these days and its the horses who suffer..its seems that turning a 77 rated horse into a group2 winning 113 rated horse in 10 runs is not good enough for elite racing...they want more..they want a novice hurdle winner around plumpton...

Tom Queally rode it last twice,probably get Spencer on it next.................

Ykick, would not disagree with any of that, we'll see how the horse gets on this season.
The smart thing to do might of being to find him a stud job, after winning the gr2, as an N/H stallion, 50/60 mares a year at @ £5 OR £6K A cover, but elite like to race them, don't they?

I am pretty annoyed at the way this horse has been messed about.  The obsession to try and turn this horse into a Cup horse is not matched by a pedigree (by miler out of a 9-10F winner) which screams 'stayer'.  The sire (Dansili) also has a low percentage of winners over 14F plus.

The trainer thinks the horse will get the trip, and he sees the horse work every day.  But this horse was beaten about 6L and 8L over 12F last year by a Breeders Cup winner and the Arc winner, so he's hardly a hopeless case to stay at no further than 12F.

The horse didn't seem to stay the Leger trip but maybe could do now with hold up tactics and being a couple of years older and stronger with maybe the switch to another stable freshening it up despite his previous flat trainer doing well with it.

Henderson does well with his few flat stayers anyway so why bother taking it away again? Maybe they think he couldn't give the horse as much attention with Cheltenham and Aintree being on but I'm sure there are other staff in the yard who could oversee matters if he couldn't do it personally, or why not just give the horse back to its original trainer, unless it really was the change of scenery effect they were hoping for?

So presumably the h stands for horse and it's still an entire. Maybe Elite Racing wanted it as a NH or flat staying stallion for the breeding part of their set up where they have some nice mares like Kalinka, Soviet Song and Sister Act.

Didn't quite stay the trip but ran well fellas.

I hope the penny will finally drop with the management that Dandino doesn't stay, and will not be a cup horse.  When the camera angle changed in the straight, he clearly was moving forward into contention only to flatten out and stay on at one pace.  He lost second in the last furlong.  Not the run of a horse that stays 14F.

I think they should give it another go at the trip before deciding either way, as it was the seasonal debut and was held up to try to get the trip and came there with a sweeping run but you can really only sustain that for so long from that far back and then flatten out a bit, which is basically a perfect description I suppose of a horse not staying but I'd like to see it ridden a bit more handily, as if they expect it to last home and then if it doesn't you can safely say it needs dropping back again.

Both the trainer and jockey think that he stayed and that 1M 6F is not a problem.  The jockey said that he just got tired in the ground (he does prefer G/F)and that he wasn't as fit as the winner.

I would think based on that they will go for the Yorkshire Cup(?) race over 1M 6F at the Dante meeting.
